Time to boost it I guess...
Could be a number of factors. Weight, gearing, torque curve/power delivery, tuning, etc. My 160whp E30 M3 felt faster on the street than my 400WHP+++ c900. Guess what? It wasn't :D

The S50 has headers, exhaust and a tune, but is mostly stock otherwise. I figure it makes probably 225whp as it sits. It's a healthy motor. The E30 weighs quite a bit more than a MK2 for sure.
I'm sure they're close, but with the way that car is set up, it definitely feels quicker. That's ok...researching an S50 supercharger kit as we speak...'72 2002 pickup | '88 M5 | '89 330is | '89 M3 | '01 Z3M | '11 328xi-t

Whatever those numbers are, I'm not sure.

I had a well built mk2 2.9l VR6. It was bored out, Shrick cams, head work done. I was aiming for 200whp and it put down ~180whp. I was disappointed but it was still damn fast.
My current build was very similar, same goal: 200whp and it put down 225. I'm guessing your E30 is a lot heavier than the gti and that's what makes it feel that way. Also which trans are you running with the vr6? The Corrado unit or Mk3 stuffSimon
