My pro tip is that there are no shortcuts when painting... Great prep work makes great results...

      Thanks Matt.

I get it now. I was thinking it the "boot" was some kind of bushing for a pin joint or some such thing.

Ive had pretty good success with aircraft remover on wheels. Gets them reallly clean. Assuming any previous repairs done right it wont hurt the repairs either.

Maybe use the knock- off Dew as a paint prep solution?

I have 6 sets of wheels all in various processes of refinishing right now... been doing lots of curb rash repair lol

sand down with 100 grit working your way up to 400, then CLEAN. prime and wetsand, paint and wetsand. Dont cut corners! working for 40 minutes at a time and spacing it out is the way to go.

I got new kidney grills off ebay - two for $40 shipped. I am very impressed with the quality, just saying. Would recommend

Pro tip #1 - sorry to say, but don't paint wheels that have tires already mounted. Every seam is a chance for peeling to start. And it will happen. Right around the valve stem if I had to put money on it.

Pro tip #2 - spend all day repainting them. As others have said, 90% of a good paint job is good prep. Take your time to sand down imperfections, any gouges, etc.

I'm no professional but I have painted a handful of cars now and several sets of wheels. I have done it wrong enough times to know how to do it right. I'll be painting the M3 vert project myself this summer.

If you don't want to spend time on it have them media blasted and powdercoated, I know a few good shops in the area I can recommend to you.

All good tips. I may just leave them alone. I was hoping to spray them with the current tires on than mount the new tires on but at this point for the quality I want I should probably wait until I have another set of wheels to roll on so I can take the time to do it right.

Very excited for new rubber though. Current Kumhos we're made in 2009!

Anyone know of anyone looking for a decently clean late model convertible? I'm probably going to be putting mine up for sale here this weekend as just haven't had the time to spend on it. 92, 5speed, heated seats, mauritius blue with black leather interior. around 140k ish miles.
