'86 325iX 3.1 Stroker Turbo '86 S38B36 325
No one makes this car anymore. The government won't allow them, normal people won't buy them. So it's up to us: the freaks, the weirdos, the informed. To buy them, to appreciate them, and most importantly, to drive them.

Sorry for the lack of updates. Progress has been made. I am almost ready to assemble the engine. Bottom end has been put together by a well known machine shop who specialises in drag/race motors.
Here it is sitting in the bck of my new daily e39 M5:
I went for JE pistons at 11.4:1 and 95.5mm bore, new bearings, kept the oil squirters, and had the shop paint the block and fit new freeze plugs.
Brand new head, the old one was bent from overheating:
And a trial fit for fun:
Cams are 284/276 Schricks. I have 30lb injectors, a custom Iigo chip and a Evo 3 (535i) airflow meter to run the engine in on when it is all finished.
I am just waiting on the fastners brackets etc to come back from yellow cad plating, and I have had all the alloy parts vapour blasted.
Oh if you came to Eastern Hill and saw a Henna E30 M3 then yes that was mine. Sold and sad.Pulling my hair out with all these friggin BMW's:

The old head can be repaired if it's bent. I am in the process of making a setup to do it in house. It's a process and have to have a jig, but not derribly difficult. It's a matter of heating and cooling the head with strategically placed shims.

With the stroker kit, shouldn't be bad below 4500, but the s14 sure does sound sweet above!
I plan on getting the head straightened, there is a couple of places here in BC that could do it. The thing is, once it is straightened and rebuilt with new guides etc, the cost would've come close to what I got the new head for. $1900 US at ECS tuning. it was on sale. With the old head it may get straightened and then ported to rally spec.
The S14 is famous for being pretty lackluster around town in the lower rev ranges.
I am doing an experiment. The combination of 2.5 crank, high compression (relatively) and the baby Schrick cams with (this is important I think) a stock head and 46mm throttles.
The increase in stroke and compression combined with small intake tracks for better air speed in lower rev ranges and a stock exhaust manifold and exhaust might make for a torquey S14. We will see. If not then I will just swap out the top end for traditional ported, big cammed and exhaust and carbon airbox etc.Pulling my hair out with all these friggin BMW's:

The smaller runner definitely will make a difference. We experimented both on the flow bench and dyno with the m20 intakes. We flowed the eta intake on an 885 head, then we ported it to match the "i" TB. Matching our flow bench research on the dyno, the 885 head showed no HP loss when using the eta intake, but the torque went from 150 to 170! I concur with your thought based on experience. Compression/stroke makes TQ, RPM/flow makes HP (simplistically speaking). Typically ITB's are too large to begin with, and people make them larger with the thinking "bigger is better", but that's not true when you combine all the proper parts.
