    Hey, Ive been reading this thread a bit, and right now I am at a loss for wiring... But I have a couple issues to deal with

    I have a s52 with a obdi swap going into a e30 m3.... Does anyone know the pinchart for a m3? Or a diagram for complete wiring? I cant seem to find a solid chart

      So do I have to worry if a 95 e36 harness is setup for ews? If it is, can i use it with a non-ews ecu? I'm not quite sure what the deal with ews is...

        Hey, has anyone experienced or knows about using the getrag 240 transmission out of a 318is M42 with the M50. I have this tranny and driveshaft already just wanted to know if it's worth using it or not and what diff would you recomand with it. And i also have a open 2.93 diff out of super eta 325 car, if i would use the getrag 240 tranny with this diff will it be a good setup. If not, will the getrag 260 be a good setup with the 2.93 diff.

          m50 swap underway... what you think?

          the car 1991 318is...

          picking up the following monday

          m50 1992 525i motor (nonvanos) w/ ac pump belts etc..(from auto tranny car)
          m50 1992 wiring harness w/ 402 ECU
          e36 motor mounts
          e36 5 speed tranny
          new e36 325 clutch, throw bearing, manual pilot bearing
          drive shaft from a 318 AT e30? or whatever model works... junkyard letting me pick
          e30 4.10lsd with 325 abs axles
          e28 3.25 non lsd rear end to get the gears...
          e36 radiator (325)
          e30 master clutch cyln. (new)
          e36 325 slave cyln. (new)
          green motor mounts
          turner 402 chip (treehouse)
          treehouse wiring harness
          treehouse eyeball arms
          radiator hoses (treehouse)
          overflow tank (treehouse)
          oil pan gasket
          valve cover gasket
          water pump
          temperature sensor
          320i booster (modded by treehouse)
          alum. thermostat housing


          am i missing anything?
          i've heard the i need custom a/c cables made. also hear 318 works fine.. (my cars a 318is)
          also told stock throttle cable will work...
          need a air filter... any cheap suggestions? :)
          what do i need for exhaust? can get e36 exhaust manifolds all the way to the muffler?
          im buying a 97 m3 muffler
          what about the clutch fan?

            Does treehouse charge more for their radiator hoses? I just used those for an e36...

            The hoses for your A/C will be easy.
            *For the large hose: Take your e30 hose and an e36 hose and have the ends swapped. you need the e36 compressor side and the e30 body side. I spent $21 on this, if you can find the e36 end it is cheap.
            *For the smaller hose: 1991 318is

            Don't forget to connect the wiring for the "a/c on" to the DME, I will look it up, but I think it is the white and black wire, you just connect it to the a/c switch so it gets power when the a/c is on. It keeps the engine from pulling down with the a/c on at idle.

            On the driveshaft: As long as the front section, including the flexdisc, measures 26.25 to 26.5 inches from the front of the flex disc to one of the mounting holes in center support bearing. I think the one from a 1986 325e will work as well.

              Your 4.10 diff and the E36 transmission is not good at all. In 5th gear you will be turning about 6k rpm and 85mph. Recomend a 3.23

                thats why i posted 2 diffs i have... a 4.10 lsd e30...and a e28 non lsd for the gears (3.25).

                talked to a tranny friend of mine today... he's gonna look at putting the gears from the 28 to the e30 lsd...

                  you don't have to change the gears, all you have to swap is the back cover for the diff

                      wait... are you just talking about the locking unit... or the whole gear set? If you're tlaking about the gear set... its completely pointless to change out the gear set... if you want a 4.10 you should just keep the diff... you dont want a 4.10 with an m50... waaaay too low of gearing... for an m50... traction will not be there for you.

                        heres the detials

                        i have a 318is diff (small box with i think, bigger axles)

                        after m50 motor e36 tranny swap (5spd):

                        4.10 e30 lsd rear end. remove flanges, rear plate to mount, and pull lsd unit.

                        insert into e28 3.25 lsd rear end (flanges, rear plate for e30, lsd)

                        did that make sense?

                        or... pull out 4.10 gears in e30 and put in 3.25, reinstall e30 mounting plate

                          just read this - don't post numbers if they're not accurate :roll:
                          4.10:1 w/ an e36 transmission will put you at about 110mph at 6k rpm
                          Also - what car do you get the 3.23 out of? I thought the e28 535is had the 3.25lsd
                          What if his goal was to have fifth top at 120mph, don't know why he would choose to do such a thing, but if that were his goal then you would have steered him in a very costly wrong direction.
                          It would be cool if you could edit your post.... :?

                            Okay... I'm officially an idiot... I wasnt connecting a power wire from the wiring harness... It was getting mixed up with my stereo shit... I connected it, and now the White relay is buzzzing like a crazy mother fucker... WHats up?

                              I'm hoping to put in an m50 this summer into my eta. I'll be happy with ~200hp for quite awhile, I think. I'm going to be selling my old daily soon. I'm only expecting to get 2.5-3k for it so most of the money is going to go to suspension and other things, but what should I start aquiring for the swap? Some of the smaller/cheaper items?

                                Ok, Im still trying to figure out a differential setup. I have a 4.10 thats on my car now (m3), I was told a 318ti will not work? Can someone just list the setups that WILL work? Maybe this will help clarify it for everyone
