    S54 swap questions and concerns

I'm ready to start my s54 swap on my m3, the s14 is out and sold, car is on jack stands and excited about the s54. I'm currently collecting parts and so far I have..

-02 S54 with 114K I plan on replacing the rod bearings and Vanos before motor goes in.
    -97 320zf trans/driveshalf
    -e36 engine arms
    -e32 brake booster
    -Tyler@thearcasylum swap pan and subframe
-s54 harness/ecu plan on buying Andrews adapter and have Nando reprogram the ecu.
    -stock e46m3 rad
    -e46m3 gas pedal
    -electric fan

    My questions:
    -which flywheel/pressure plate/clutch to use.
    -which diff?
-do I need the ews module?

    My concerns:

Use flywheel/pp/clutch from whatever trans you are using.

I have a built 3.73 for mine but am using the E46 6spd so something a bit more conservative... perhaps a 3.46.

EWS should be coded out in DME. PM me if you need any coding services.

        On my s54 swap I used a 320zf with e36 m3 clutch kit. My s54 came out of a Z3 M e36.

Can I use the s54 starter with the zf? I read somewhere that the e36m3 flywheel will work with the s54 starter, is this correct?

Hmm I was gonna go with a 373 but now I'm not so sure. I only decided to go 5spd because trans is easier to source and more affordable.

Pm coming ur way soon thanks

3.73 is wayyy to short for 5 speed. I just swapped in a 4-clutch 3.23. I used UUC m3 flywheel with e34 m5 clutch. s54 starter works fine

from what i have read a lot of people run a 3.25 from an e28 when rocking the ZF 5spd. that's what i plan to run if i run that transmission at some point

Yep, that's a good option. I had access to an e36 m3 3.23 and was re-building the limited slip out of my diff anyways so I decided to just swap gears. e28 3.25 is defintely the easier way to do it.

OP, you need an e46 m3 fuel pressure regulator/fuel filter assembly. I made a bracket in the engine bay for the regulator and ditched the filter because it's huge, I just bought a new e30 fuel filter instead

I suppose any m5x/s5x will do. Mine were off of a 328

Ebay headers are hit or miss by the way. Lots of header info on m3forum

I was under the impression that there's a difference between the obd1 and obd2 engine arms? Ok so I'm guessing same engine mounts awell? I used the green 535i mounts for my s52 swap.

I like where this thread is going. I run the E36 ZF 5 speed with a 2.93 LSD with my S54 swap.

As for the clutch, I run the dual mass flywheel with a SPEC clutch. Stock-like driveability.

EWS should be deleted from the DME when you flash. Randy Mueller did this for me but Frank Smith is closer to you in VA.

Since a lot of S54 guys are in this thread....what kind of power are you boys putting down now? I have the EPIC race tune and I just made 340 rwhp/277tq without a CSL airbox or headers. Just curious.

Good Luck OP. Let me know if you have any questions.
