I own a 1986 325es. I have been wanting to replace my crank sensor for a while because it was repaired using black electrical tape by the previous owner. My problem is that I recently found out that my car should have 2 cranks sensors at the flywheel, but my car has the late model sensor at the damper...
So I just left it alone for the time being until I could figure out what was going on.
A few days ago, I started removing my steering rack to replace it and noticed a crank sensor installed at the flywheel and an empty hole where the second (top) sensor should be installed.
Both connectors are plugged into the harness. The damper sensor is connected with blade type connectors and not the actual plug from the sensor.
Has anyone ever seen or heard of this? I am not sure if I can remove the damper sensor and go with the 2 at the flywheel or if I can eliminate the one at the flywheel... or if I just have to purchase one of each and keep the car running the way it is right now.
