    m20 325e engine parts on 325i

Why 325e water pump pulley and toothed dampener well are different? If swapped as a pair into 325i, are there any issues with E crank/toothed wheel timing?

    #2
e cars don't use the front mounted toothed wheel. water pumps changed over the years a little. the e car water pump does not work on later i cars. if you want to know what is compatible check the part numbers between the two cars on realoem.

      i did...
water pump is the same for late E car and iate i car, pn 11519070758

water pump pulley is larger on i car - 129mm vs 105mm diameter on E car
      belt is the same.
Toothed wheel on E is the different part number because its integrated pulley is larger than on i
Why I'm asking if one swaps Balancer AND a pulley from E car to i car, is there any issues with timing on the crank?

doesn't look like they swap. there is enough difference in price alone that it suggests they are pretty far apart. you could always try, but it's a risk to the engine if it doesn't fly.

You have to be careful here. A late E car is 86-87...88 325 (no e) aka Super ETA (8/1987 on), shares more in common with the 325i and is the car that shares the later style water pump.

if your car is a super e it should be ok. if it isn't nothing works. what do you have and what year? that's what you need to look at. at present theres not enough info to advise you.

As long as water pump pulley and crank pulley match it’ll bolt up fine.

super eta has a bigger crank pulley attached to the balancer and the small water pump pulley.

325i has smaller attached crank pulley and bigger water pump pulley.

as long as both match they’ll work on either car. Timing marks on balancer are the same.

when people do the “full 885” super eta conversion on 88 325 I’m sure most never change the harness or balancer but they change the DME, injectors, cam, etc and it all works fine.
