    Waterpump Recommend?

what is the word on m20 water pump brands these days? i've been chasing a coolant issue from day one after my rebuild. narrowed it, we hope, to a faulty waterpump. i've less than a thousand klicks on the thing, and want to replace it with a quality brand.

i notice graf is available, they used to have a decent reputation. bmw brand is available but i'd like to duck the oem tax if possible.

if the pump doesn't fix it the last thing left is the radiator.

I have lost two Graf water pumps in one years, first one was bearing issue(maybe water pump belt was little too tight), then this second was staring leak from gasket(not sure why), now this 3 Graf is in place, lets see what will happen..Next is coming Meyle branded waterpump

so far the graf seems the most used. hepu also rates but is close to twice the price. rein from fcp euro also gets mentioned. the bmw pump is over $400 here with shipping so not an option at all.

odd, my edit didn't show up in the last post.

wound up ordering a graf yesterday after talking to my local indie. they recommend either graf or hepu. of course that's before i saw the first reply. the hepu is about double the cost of the graf, but may have been worth it. the next one will be hepu if this one fails.

pretty sure the last was a rein with plastic impeller. it came packaged with a gates blue belt i had ordered, i think they used rein in the timing kits.

on an expensive well maintained engine go for the OE, for a budget engine the HEPU is a more budget option that isnt rubbish

The pump that BMW sells was refurbished after it had failed.

Pretty sure GRAF is OEM supplier. edit: Nope, apparently Saleri is OEM

I've had several grafs fail, i think hepu is better, but i still used graf last time because it's cheaper and i didn't expect to need more than a few months out of it.

i won't be too thrilled if the graf fails early. the local shop told me pumps of all brands including oem have failed in a yr or less. there was a serious dive in quality across them all that began almost a decade ago and inceased exponentially in the last 5 yrs. they have had a lot of issues with front end components failing over the same time.
