    Rob dog pointed out the head bolts, you might have the stamped idle pulley that should be replaced also.

      Add the cam gear to this FYI. Both were recalled.

        True, I think I'll replace the belt too then, thanks.

        Yeah those are the old bolts, this old girl hasn't had the head off in a longggg time (only once in like 91 if the service records are correct).
        Nah the cam sprocket is the right one. I also thought it was the stamped one the first time I saw it but when I did the timing belt and got a better look it's actually the newer cast one. I did have to change the oil drive sprocket though, that one was the stamped one. Weird that they were of different kinds.

          Pulled the head, other than a ton of carbon deposits, doesn't look too bad in spite of 200k+ miles! still got cross-hatching!

            looks like oily deposits all over the place
            89 E30 325is Lachs Silber - currently M20B31, M20B33 in the works, stroked to the hilt...
