    New IE Header Hotness

IE released some new M20 headers at what appears to be a very competitive price-point for what you’re getting. if I didn’t already have their other long tubes coated with vbands welded on I’d snag them for my build.

I wonder how this style of header (Racing Dynamics) will make power compared to their other Long Tubes. These collectors don’t appear to be as long?

    figured I’d share in here:

It appears so! I’d like to see how they compare to their other traditional long tubes.

Ironically these appear better quality at least visually due to being TIG welded and superior tube bend form work, and better priced than the RD ones (excluding the older originals) so kudos for bringing a "new" product to market at a reasonable price point.

i haven't seen anyone do a header test on the dyno and publish online with an M20 for what seems like over 10 years so don't hold your breath....lol. With other tests on inline 6 often its such a different beast interpretation needs a fair bit of caution.

In reality what the exhaust looks like after the 3 into 1 merges is just as, if not more important than the primaries. these are more suited to engine that you want to rev, over their long tubes which are more for the lower to mid range boost this is simply down to the primary length. couple the wrong collector length then all that can change though....philosophically speaking i think of primaries for the top end power and collectors / secondaries for the bottom end and mid range (broadening the power band).

i'm currently looking at designing my own set (loosely speaking) so have been crunching a lot of numbers and doing too much research.

100% copy. It wasn't a coincidence that IE bought a set from the last group buy.

I also think they get kudos for producing them, and at a nice price point. I had thought about mfgr'ing them, but honestly BMW owners are the cheapest of them all when it comes to headers. We mfgr'd Chevy headers for a few years and those guys had no problem paying almost 2x that for similar quality (think Beretta/Cutlass/Grand Prix owners lol). No way would we have been able to keep them at that price point.

The collectors on the new IE headers are lack-luster, but the build quality is there. Those swedged-end collectors are what we used to use when first building headers, then went to Cone Engineering's longer collectors - as well as adding collector bullets (had to be hand fabbed, no one made 3-1 bullets at the time).

After seeing the IE FB post, was wondering how long until someone posted about them.

they are 304 to, not 400 series. yeah the collectors are not nice look kinda huge, but neither are the remade RD ones compared to the originals

by eye the originals look like smaller collector size?
