Sort of depends on the year of your car too. The early cars from '84 to '86 are listed at around 2400lbs for a 318i and 2650lbs for an eta (not scientific, just rounded those numbers from memory). So if you take a 2650lb eta, remove 80lbs of AC stuff, and add 57lbs more motor you wind up with a car that weighs about the same as stock, assuming that a Getrag 265 weighs a bit more than a 260.

I have a e28 shaved fly, and I wish I had gone 533/M5. But even then it get up there just fine.
ETA's just start to choke after what? 3.5k? They just fall flat on their face.
