    Stock M42 With RHD ITBs

Posting this thread because there isn't a ton of data floating out there regarding the power output of a stock M42 with the RHD ITBs. I am going to get the car tuned this weekend (running an ECUMaster EMU Black standalone), and plan to post the dyno results here for posterity. The goal is to get a stock engine running as strong as possible on the new ECU and ITBs, with a plan to plug in a hot stroker M42 that I am building on the side later.

    Here is the current setup:
    -Stock e30 M42 - Unknown Mileage
    -RHD ITBS
-ECUMaster EMU Black Standalone ECU (Alpha-N)
    -RHD Lightweight Flyweel
    -Clutch Fan Delete
    -A/C Delete
    -Power Steering Delete
    -4 Pintle 19lb stock injectors
    -factory headers
    -2.5” exhaust, no cat
    -Shiny Dinan COPs

Here's a picture of the engine bay with ITBs installed. Please ignore how messy things currently are. Everything will be tidied up once tuning is completed.

    Looking forward to the results!

Same here, would love a full detailed write up on install and driving impressions as well. ITB's are my one dream modification, there is so little information out there on the M42 set up. Thanks in advance.

always thought the m42 should have had itbs out of the box.

I was planning on doing this at some point as well. I needed to work out all the kinks before presenting a comprehensive install write up, but once I am happy with how this is running I will put something together here on R3v.

So we made it to the tuner this weekend as expected.

Worked with Atomic Frank out in San Bernardino, CA. Frank works primarily on high HP Honda engines, so I felt his expertise in 4 cylinders and deep experience using ECUMaster ECUs made him the right person for the job.

                  Conditions:
                  DynoCom Dyno (similar to DynoJet)
                  Elevation: ~1,000 ft
                  Temp: 70F
                  Humidity 25%
                  Fuel: 91 Octane

                  Results:

                  Run 1:
                  132.2 WHP at 6525 RPM
116.0 LBFT Torque at 5425 RPM
                  Average HP: 123.7 WHP
Average Torque (to the crank) 121.9 LBFT
                  Adjusted Crank HP: 152 BHP
                  Adjusted Crank Torque: 133.5 LBFT

                  Run 2:
                  134.5 WHP at 6525 RPM
116.6 LBFT Torque at 5400 RPM
                  Average HP: 121.1 WHP
Average Torque (to the crank) 124.4 LBFT
                  Adjusted Crank HP: 154.6 BHP
                  Adjusted Crank Torque: 134 LBFT

Overall very happy with the results. Getting close to stock M20 HP numbers, and most stock/chipped M42s that I was seeing online were in the neighborhood of 115-120WHP at best, so it's clear that there was some real improvement with the ITBs and ECU.

Obviously, $/HP here is ridiculous, as I have over $3500 invested in the ITBs and ECU, but that wasn't exactly the point. I will now be putting together a 2.0L+ cammed M42 to really take advantage of the whole setup. Goal with that engine is stock S14 power levels or above, which should be very attainable based on this result.

Hope this is helpful for someone in the future considering these modifications to an M42.

                  Cheers!

Love these numbers and this work. Thanks for posting - perhaps some day I'll get this in my car.
