    I got mine from the UK, private seller. Through BMW they're $1200. I'm not sure you could get one since it's a "euro" part.

    Cripes. Looks like I was right when I did some back-of-the-envelope stuff and determined I could build an M20 2.8 for less than a M42 2.0

    In case some of you were wondering how much I'm into this build so far. Here's the breakdown.

    -Spare M42 engine - $200
    -M42 head head work - $300
    -All new timing components/gaskets,ect. - $735
    -M47 crank - $750
    -M47 crank modification - $200
    -S52b32 pistons(6) $200
    Total $2385 so far!

    Thanks! The only thing left are the pistons. I have the S52b32 pistons, but I'm having a hard time finding someone to machine them to the specs I want. I may just get a set of pistons from MM, JE, ect....

    Nice work! One of my next projects is to address oil leaks from the timing cover. I'm debating whether or not just to pull the engine over winter and spend a month or two refreshing the engine. Though maybe I should just find a spare engine like you did. :)
