The damage to the cam and rockers is a lot quicker
without the zinc vs the damage to the cat. They only took the zinc out a few years ago, I have had a lot of cars from the eighties, American junk to boot, put about 150k on each and never changed a cat.1989 Cirrus Blau coupe Racing Dynamics wheels and a Volvo Spoiler.Comment

I went and picked up the oil. It's not marked very clearly, just a bunch of numbers on a plain label, with the words "Mobil 1 20w50". I'll call Mobil to verify the label info, and then send a sample to Blackstone to verify the actual content.
Either way, at $1.87/qt, even if it's regular Mobil non-synthetic, is less then half the cost of the cheapest, shittiest oil available. I bought a drum pump, put a filter on it, and now have a few years supply of oil right in my garage :)Comment

I just got off the phone with Mobil, they are unable to identify it. I'll send a test to Blackstone, and see if it matches any of the virgin samples of Mobil...

If it does, I'm just going to use it and hope for the best. That test should tell me if it's contaminated as well, so I should be OK to use it if all looks good.... I think.Comment

It's Mobil 1 full synthetic 20w-50 with a kickass additive package and very little contamination. Sounds damn good for $1.87 a quart! :)

Kinda sucks that that it's so old, as you can see this is before they started using moly. But for the price, I can't complain. I now have 37 gallons of full synthetic Mobil 1 20w-50 oil for $1.87/qt. It's nice to know I won't have to purchase oil for years to come. Now I just need to find a bulk supply of filters!Comment

blunt :p
I think M1 15w50 is like 1200ppm of ZDDP? or something close to that. I'd love to have a whole barrel of the stuff for under $2/qt though, that's insane. I think it's $4/qt at wal-mart now.Comment

that sucks. it's hard to find 15w50 anything really, but they always have a ton of it here. I only really get it at wal-mart because I hate buying 5 individual quarts and then trying to put my old oil back in.. much easier with one big jug. :)Comment

The Mobil 1 5qt jugs are $21 ($4.20/qt), but individual quarts are $6-$7. I also cannot find M1 15w50 at any Wal-Marts locally anymore. Highest viscosity they carry is 10w40 High Mileage. That's a pretty good deal, since even the cheapest oil at Wal-Mart/Advance Auto/Autozone/Pep Boys is $3.50+/qt. And that's a shitty dino oil.Comment

Mobile 1 doesn't even have ZDDP in it anymore I thought or has been greatly reduced. The VR1 and the Racing formula from Valvolene still has a decent amount.Comment
