yeah to the rocket scientist^ I think this mod is not for the performance, but for the extra noise it makes. I actually got a ticket over here in germany and had to pay a fine for cutting the bottom of my air box off. pretty stupid!

By simply cutting holes in the side of the airbox, you are increasing the amount of air that can enter the airbox... BUT... with the AFM, a certain amount of air is alowed to enter the engine, so increasing VOLUME will not make a difference because of the resrtictive intake path. However, if you remove the AFM with something like A-n or an equivalent after market EMS... then "drilling holes" or, preferably, adding some other sort of intake setup with an individual TB setup would yield serious hp gains... but drilling holes only allows a higher volume of untuned, hot air to enter the intake path...

It's for sound, not for gains... nobody really cares.

Just for the record, I pulled the tube from the rear headlight cover to the airbox (same principle and sound FX as a drilled box) for a few dyno runs, and the motor ran really lean, almost dangerously so.....

Yesterday i put a stock airbox bottom back in, as well as new hood insulation underneath, sounds much more quiet.

Why is this thoroughly played out and useless thread still alive?

because it might sound better, but it could potentially harm an engine...

I don't see how it would harm it any more than a cone intake or M30 AFM.
