i think when i get the money i might just go with a new flywhl and cluch mybe get an 8.5 pounder that will probably make a huge differance in the 0-60 :twisted:

how does this affect the idle? metic mechanic has a lightend dual mass flywheel I was considering... has anyone tried it?

What kind of car do you drive? If it is an M42, you can swap the M20 single mass flywheel (shaved) and a few other parts and you can lose a lot of weight.

mines 11.5, (oem flywheel lightened). I only noticed good things about the flywheel, better accel, and def. better pick up coming out of turns.

I just did a fresh engine swap to my Convetible which had lots of miles to it...

i have got a light single mass flywheel in there with a 6 puck racing clutch with new release bearing, and after i started the engine i could hear the same as you are describing..????

Got to my local BMW Tech and he said it was normal cause the tranny has lots of miles and it will make that noise...

he also said that back in the old days before the dual mass flywheel this would happen often...

The chatter is common for LTW flywheels, I'm not exactly sure what causes it, but every car I've ridden in with one chatters when the clutch is disengaged. It's raw as hell. :twisted:

It's most noticeable pulling through drive-thru's (bank, wendys), you can really hear it up against the wall. :D I let a friend drive mine once, he started it up, let the clutch out (neutral), and was like, "WTF is that!" :P

Yep, thats when my friends noticed it last time. My ticking injectors don't help either :)

It's advertised as 8.5, but was 7.5 on my scale. :) As you know, the more weight you take out of the flywheel, the less vibration resistence and dampening you have going through the driveline. That said, the throttle is extremely sensative on my car, and took a good bit of driving to get completely used to (after coming from a 28 pounder) :D

if that is the only "problem" you have to live with you have a tough life. :D

If I get the opportunity to change i will sell my 13.5 and go with the 7.5 or maybe the 5.5 i saw recently.

My fly wheel is 28 lbs and it really bugs me its sucking my power :evil:

It's not sucking your power... It just has more rotational mass that's spinng to retain interia. Granted it does not spin up as faster but it's not parasitcally eating your HP.

yeah it is just the fact that your engine has to get the higher inertia of the 28lb flywheel moving as well as move your car, initally. with a lighter one the engine is doing more moving of the car.
