I hate to tell you that won't work. You absolutely MUST use the Bilstein upper gland nut because it has a built in dust seal.

Also, the Bilstein strut insert needs to be "pinched" only around the exact periphery of the housing, nothing can touch the chrome shaft under any condition. If gland nuts other the Bilstein are used, the strut can slide and gouge the chrome shaft, in addition to being unsealed.

Bilstein has the parts, you need to call them and buy them.

Bilstein has collar nuts with external threads that match the E30 shock tubes with dust rings the same diameter as G60 shock shafts? If they do that'd be amazing.

Like I said I drilled out the collar nuts for the G60 shafts. I found some O-ring gaskets that are the exact outer diameter as the inner collar nuts and exact inner diameter as the shafts that I'm using as dust rings right now. I also wrapped the shocks with this thick friction tape I found at home depot to make up the 6mm difference in diameter.

I thought I posted this picture up but I guess not.

It doesn't have an adhesive really, it just sticks to itself. A lot like handle bar grip. They fit very snug. Nothing touches the shafts of course.

I'd love to get those collar nuts from Bilstein if they exist.

I'm holding out on pictures until I get tires on the new wheels.

Some pictures of what I'm talking about:

Idiot + interwebz rumors + hackjob = trouble

I'm just going to eventually send housings to GC, have them put in their custom Konis, send back, and install them on my car, no worries. I've been meaning to get around to that... stupid grown up stuff

So all in all, it was a learning experience to say the least.
On the plus side, I can dismantle E30 suspension in the dark in record time now.

Yea, this way takes more work and some modification, but here's my parts list for under $1300:

                Bilstein Sport G60 (F)
                Bilstein Sport E30 (R)
                GC Coilover Conv. kit
                M3 Offset CAB's
HD Control Arms w/ all joints
                Tie Rods
                Sway Bar Links
                JT Design rear shock mounts
                Rear Mount reinforcement plates
                New collar nuts
                M3 Sway Bar link tabs
                Tape, gaskets, etc
                Fabrication

And a much lower range of motion.

                  that you are

Parallel lines show difference in caster and vertical lines show difference in camber. And this is only from a 5 degree difference, which is amplified when you lower the car and control arms sit flat instead of angled downwards. Enjoy.

On the other note, Mucci, what you're doing will destroy your billies very quickly, because Bilstein collar not is supposed to hold outer casing in, since these shocks are inverted (reason why shafts are so thick). I would go to a junk yard and grab struts from a VW, cut threaded pieces off and weld it to your housings and use bilstein strut nuts.

You mean horizontal lines show caster?

And I'm not sure what you mean about holding the outer casings in. I'm looking to resolve this better then I have currently. Finding a G60 raddo in a yard isn't easy though.

Yea. No need for a shorter rear shock when the GC's go way low enough out back.

Well, you'll still have to chop the shock tubes.
