My perfect M car would be an s54 e36

Something about the e36 styling just hits for me while the e46 styling is just okay to me

Also, the e30 is probably the only 3 series IMO where a non M late model looks sleeker

I agree with you I think a S54 swapped BRG E36 would be perfect.
Or a E30 M with a S54 or S38 or even a S65 swap would be cool.
The emotion the car brings is the most important to me anyway. And if it has a cool story.

I'd probably take:

Top of my list is whether its going to be a 6 or 8 cyl, both would be a ton of fun. Then the e36 seems like a usable fun car. Then the e30, it may be iconic, but its more dfficult to live with.

I'd just skip all the new turbo m cars. I'd rather get an m340 and tune it. Once we're into factory turbos, these cars are just so fast anyway, i don't go to the track, and having a crazy dyno sheet doesn't help while sitting in traffic.
