Just say no to subaru... BORING.

on the topic of some of these not being reliable and the edit at the beginning where it's now all about newer vehicles, I don't see any reason a car from the 80's with a good fresh engine wouldn't be just as reliable or more than anything that's 5 years old or newer or whatever it was.

I'd blow it all importing an Audi RS2.

        lovely, lovely RS2.

that is assuming I find myself an E30 and then have the $27k sitting around :)

I look at vehicles differently than most people, I see subarus as having an awd system that is inferior to quattro, but then again, what awd isn't? I also see subarus as not having as much potential for mods and looking badass, infact, I'm tired of seeing them as they are everywhere in my town. both the tree hugger ones and the ricer fag ones. I've seen pics of a few slammed foresters and things like that which I honestly thought were done right, so there are exceptions to my anti-subaru outlook on life.

            I would drop a cammed/turbo'd s38 in my 90 325is
then go buy a perfect condition vert and throw a s5x in it. or maybe hunt down an e34 m5 touring.... and use whats left for the down payment

                  Ah, but unlike a C5, an S52 E30 doesn't pull the women.

in 30 years that $22,000 would probably be worth half a million. ;)
B-b-b-b-b-but old man, your max IRA contribution for TY09 is 6K even with a 1K catch-up?

                  :p:p:p

Yeah, importing either the 20 Jahre (1 of 20) or the Winkelhock (1 of 51) for less than $27k might be difficult. But, given the choice, I'd take the Winkelhock without a doubt.

If I had to be a bit more sensible and go after a true DD, I'd do the following:

                      S62B50 rebuilt longblock - $12000
                      Getrag 420G transmission - $2000
                      E39 528iT Sport- $6000
Labor for swap and miscellaneous swap parts - $3000
                      M5 seats, M5 LSD, M5 exhaust, M5 brakes - ±$4000
                      - Trey

                      E90 325i/6 (ZSP, ZPP, ZCW)
                      E36 325i sedan
                      E30 325i sedan
                      Volvo 945T

plenty of fun cars mentioned so far but honestly none of them would get me to work when we have a couple feet of snow on the roads. My daily driver needs 4wd and plenty of ground clearance. for $27k i'd probably get a ford 2006 ford f250 4wd deisel.

very very hard question.. but an e30 m3 is always a spectacle.. so i would go with that.. there are a lot of interesting answers in this thread though..
                              i like it! :D
