Uhm e30 m3 is a race car .other m cars sinc are not built first as race car to race in a dtm series.so the comparison makes no sense.i never said anywhere in here that the 335i is better how would I know that unless owned one.i said the 335i has more tourqe ,better gas milage ,m suspension option ,cheaper insurance ,cost allot less, and accelerates about the same.i owned two m cars i know the differences in them verses non.my comment is with the 335i the gap between the two is margin able.
The gap with the e36 m3 and non is greater on .the 335i is faster than a e46 m3 so not so shabby.

surely you know that "m suspension" doesn't mean it has the same suspension as an M3, right?

      I hope you're posting from a phone..

It has been said before, there is so much more than just an engine to an M3.

If you are worried about how fast you can go from red light to red light than yes a torque monster of a moded 3.5 will victorious.

For flat out track driving. The M3 will still out perform the car. That is where the M3 was born and it is still tailored towards it. It is getting diluted i cant argue that.

          335i has a 3.0L engine.

wrong. the early moustache front end pales in comparison, as do the taillights. the iDrive update is light years better. still a good car, yes. but when you call it the same and compare to the M3 I have to comment. not sure if serious or trolling.

Not sure what his has but people have been swapping out the parts to have the same suspension as an M3.

IIRC they had severe oil-cooling issues. During HPDEs / track days these and the 135 would go into limp mode due to excessive oil temps.

So an issue with oil cooling during HPDEs / track days makes the 335i one of the worst used car purchases ever?

That's who I was originally questioning.

same as people have done for every version of the M3

the thing is, once you add in the costs of all the mods and extra repairs/headaches that come with having a highly modified car.. you could have just bought an M3 and then be done with it.

it's like, why buy all the parts you need to make your not-M3 "like" an M3, when you can just buy an M3?

I think the guy who buys and mods a 335 and the guy who buys an m3 and leaves it alone are two completely different people.

I don't disagree - but saying you can get a cheaper BMW and add all the M3 stuff to make it like an M3 makes zero sense.
