The ITB's threw me off on your engine, thought it was like a weird S54 12v mix till i saw the trumpets on the table.

Nice looking cradle! That's probably what I miss most about working at dealerships, is the drivetrain cradles. God those made life easy.

          Update on the table

Before and after a few trips thru my dads planer.

I love the color of this reclaimed wood!!!
          Douglas Fir I believe.

One set of legs fabbed up.

Still needs to be ground down and spatter cleaned off.

New toy. I got tired of digging the big Miller 185 outta the back of my truck!!!

They weld like shit if you switch to solid wire and don't change the polarity to electrode positive (ground hooked to - terminal on welder).

The liner you'll need is just a standard Tweco style 35-40-15 liner for .030-.035 wire. We sell them for $9.xx IIRC?
Yeah I switched to DCEP when I first got gas. Never bothered to switch it back even when burning up flux core wire. I'll pull the liner out to double check, but I've seen some half decent beads I made with it a few years back, and I certainly can't seem to do that recently.

^ No way that liner should be worn out. I have had tips last longer than that. Slide the wire through it by hand feeling for snags. If the liner is bad most likely it will be right at the end. Check the tip too.
Also a crappy ground clamp will give the same symptoms. I recently coated the jaw of my ground clamp with copper (brazed it) and it is working much better now. GL

Base for the table is welded up.

I even beveled the bottoms of the legs to make them less "chunky" looking.

Now I need to clean the welds/spatter and let the wife decide on the finish.

She seems to be leaning to bare steel.

For TIG classes you more than likely will take gas welding first... My teacher said they started doing this to "weed out" the ones that were never going to make it in TIG.

It's not pretty, but it's not that hard either... I think there was something funny with our filler rod; every bead I did without it almost looks like TIG, but when I was using filler it looked like poop I learned later on that I was running the wrong tip# and too hot so that may have been part of it.

The piece on the bottom is two plates edge welded together... My teacher liked that one

This was one of my two final projects... It was supposed to be a handle to hold a DSLR camera, but I never used it haha

I also saw one of my dads gas welds that looked pretty good. He said it was beveled and multi-pass with 347ss rod... Probably a 20+ year old weld too...

And if you're wondering that is for an old drag-racing Borg-Warner 4-speed ;D

Got a Hobart Handler 140 for free the other day. It was getting tossed out! Needs a new gun, and voltage switch, but does power up, feed, and weld!

I can't wait to get our garage, I mean house. For now this guy is going in my shed along with all the other crap I've been collecting in preparation for a work area.

Hobart makes a great machine. I love my 190. Parts interchange with Miller, so the gun and switches are readily available.

It's interesting seeing this thread and cool.. I've been wanting to try since I deal with welding regularly 👍

This makes me want to setup my torch and dink around in the garage with it again!! There are some really impressive welders out there that do amazing things with this process.

I'm trying to find the guy on IG again but here is some of the frames he builds. All torch brazed.

My fear is more about either corrosion or contamination of some kind.

My ground clamp is the normal lincoln one with the copper braid that runs between the two sides, but I flip it forward and let the clamp bite it into the surface. I don't think it gets much better than that.

IDK where Ironfreak saw those, but these are all augnetagious first pass, then si-brz or nickle for the second. I plan on doing the same for my motorcycle frames... All raw with no post treatment other than wipe down with 99% alcohol and clear-coat. Few photos of what I want to achieve...
