And that, right there, is why people put up with the maintenance and low power. For my money, there are few better-looking cars on the road, period.
The LS swap is interesting, as it fixes a lot of problems with the car. But it's not cheap unless you can do a lot of fabrication yourself, and unless you get Turbo drivetrain parts, which also aren't cheap or easy to find, you're going to break stuff if you drive it hard.
My father inlaw for years had a Porsche restoration/parts/chop shop. He has arthritis so bad he can barely use his hands anymore but still has a 60'x100' shop full.....I mean FULL of Porsche 356, 914/6, 911, 928 and 944 parts. A few chassis too. I'd love to go buy it all off him, but I have no idea where I would store it or unload it. He has a cherry, rust free red 944T shell sitting on a shelf....literally, that I have been eyeballing for years.Last edited by IronFreak; 05-19-2015, 05:09 AM.sigpic

Well, It's gonna be a while before it gets up and running possibly. I haven't seen it in person, but it's complete, and "was running last year but needs the fuel tank flushed".
Also, Ironfreak, you may hear from me soon.Originally posted by Andy.BWhenever I am about to make a particularly questionable decision regarding a worryingly cheap diy solution, I just ask myself, "What would Ether-D do?"Comment

I always loved the 944, when I was a kid my neighbor had one, red with black interior, I so wanted it. I thought they were so much cooler looking then the 911 (back then I couldnt understand the 911 fan fare, but I also didnt know much about the performance of the cars just the looks).Comment

This one has a new clutch, so there's that. Also, here's some pics:

The interior on this one is only ok-ish. Cracky dash, rippy seat butt, missing some covers here and there, blah blah blah. I'm gonna turn it into a track car eventually. For now, get it running, grab some "turbo twist" wheels from some newer porsche, then start lightening it up for the track.Originally posted by Andy.BWhenever I am about to make a particularly questionable decision regarding a worryingly cheap diy solution, I just ask myself, "What would Ether-D do?"Comment

I need help. Save me from myself.
I saw an ad for a black cabrio which has apparently been sitting for about 10 years. From the provided pictures, both the inside and outside look very good. Asking price is $3800. How much of a bad idea would this be? I see talk of them being horrible to work on; what specifically makes them so bad? It seems like the way the car is packaged means a lot of extra things have to be removed a lot of the time?
I dunno, I feel like this is one of those (increasingly rare) opportunities to buy something that's kinda special for normal-people money. Buuuut I also know the old adage about judging a book by its cover...
P.S. I'm not expecting the thing to be an E30, but I guess I'm wondering how much hope there would be of the car working most of the time/what all would I NEED to take care of before driving? I know timing belt/tensioner, water pump, chain tensioners, drain fuel/new filter, fluids would have to be done.
What am I thinking.Interested in vintage cars? Ever thought about racing one? Info, photos, videos, and more can be found at www.michaelsvintageracing.com!

it could work out for you. since you do the work yourself, the labor cost isn't a factor but there is always the "pain in the ass" aspect to consider.
i say if you can find a car with a good paint job, decent interior, and serviceable mechanicals for that price, it might be worth considering.sigpic
