I reeeeally want this as my next car. Not the most responsible/cheapest option, but god damn, there is just too much about this car to pass up.

Catch me next summer in an Imola Red M5 going down pch;D

And in the M2, faster than the manual (according to BMW).

SMG technically is faster than a manual as well.

SMG Vs DCT on the street is very noticable, SMG is clunky, slow, does not downshift very well, etc.

DCT is pretty much spot on every single time (so is the new ZF 8 speed automatic that BMW uses in everything)

On a racetrack SMG is great (as is DCT) however I always need to help it make that perfect downshift, otherwise it would slip the clutch a little and unsettle the rear.. (this was in an E46 M3)

I've seen this mentality alot toward BMW M engines.. heaven forbid they require more maintenance over an M50 :p

M62 is a great engine as well, and the timing guides are not that hard to do
Changing the rod bearings every 60k shouldnt be routine maintenance

I know about the s54 rod bearings as well but it also has a long crank and a longer stroke whats the s65's excuse it shouldnt eat bearings since bmw should have learned from the s54

How can honda build a motor that will rev to 9k and not eat rod bearings

I've driven one . Not actually as fast as I thought it was gonna be . Probably just alittle faster then an S50 swapped e30 (because of weight differences) I'd rather have the E39 .

The sound alone is reason to buy one.

In class our teacher said "Auto is faster, no matter how good you are at stick, so stick shift should go away!" This dude is a BMW wizz but we were all like "?!?!!???"

I want a manual because it's more engaging and thrilling, I'm not setting lap times in my neighborhood XD.

Agreed I love my manuals, but the DCT blows it away every time drive one.

it's really not that much faster. most of the time it's like 1/10th of a second, if that. I mean, really, so what? It's faster on paper - big deal. You know what's also faster than driving a manual BMW to work if you live in a big city? Public transit. Clearly, there are other reasons to drive a car like the M5...

                                that...is a rockstar arguement. :D

i love manuals. the 135 we just bought came with dct and it is fast as fuck. i test drove an smg m6 and i thought the car sucked. i felt like in comparison, i could jerk off a couple times, pick my nose, and go eat a 3 course meal while i was waiting for the thing to go on to the next gear.
