I didn't see this go down, but briefly skimmed the comments.

I guess it's a gamble listing when BaT dictates the reserve price, but the auction being at likely the worst time of year definitely would play a massive part too.
I don't know how auction timing works, but it sounds like it's another shaft by BaT.

Also I didn't realize it was a salvage car, and it strikes me as odd to use that specific car for a full restoration, but then again, it's a 318is so yeah

Yeah, using that car for an "investment" project like this was the mistake. If he had more than $40k in parts alone then ouch... Restored as obsessively as it was, it will always be a grade lower than a car that didn't need the amount of work it did. The body turned out nice but I'd credit the rebuilt stroker motor for adding ~$10k to the final bid. Without that it's just a OEM+ restomod with shiny new hardware and some choice parts. I realize that's drastically underselling what's gone into this car, but I think that's the lesson here.

Curious what the non butter'd up 91 will go for. Coolant leak, one jack point crush, pre molested state, dry rott tires. Might be a good buy.

Yeah those bids on the white M3 seem very suspicious. They make no sense. Came here to see what the rationale/hype was. Must be that aftermarket CD stereo. Something tells me that car will get relisted.
