S50 M3 Convertible

I saw this is Bimmer Magazine and thought you guys would like to see it. It's not an original idea, but the guy spent mad cash to basically replace everything on his car to be like new or like an M3 cabrio. Really nicely done. Check it out:

Everything was OEM BMW parts for the M3 conversion - the guy spent something like $75k on it.

One thing that bothers me about that car is the trunklid seems to be not quite flush on the top, it pops out at me every picture I see.

However, that's a very minor gripe. Awsome work on this car.

Mine isn't either. If he has the one gas-strut trunk lid set-up it seems to be a common thing for the lid to not be flush on the 'verts. BMW changed to a two gas strut set up which seemed to fix things.

For $75k you'd have thunk that would have been addressed!

That figure comes from the article...he basically had the car completely stripped to a bare shell and rebuilt from there.

This is mine! And as for the car costing 75k to build, even if you didn't do the work yourself it still wouldn't come close to that figure!!! I did the exact same thing, every single part was bought from BMW except for the rear quarter panels, which were sourced from fiberartz. I had the euro depot in concord, NH do the s50 engine swap, and the e30 m3 5 lug suspension conversion. Everything on the original car was stripped and replaced with new factory parts or upgraded! It was a really fun project and was relatively inexpensive! (for what you get in the end!!!!) The car I started with was a 1990 325i cabrio. It was one of the last preface-lift cars made 4/90 production. The motor and trans came from a donor 1995 m3 with 48k on it and the body work and paint work were done by me and a friend. The car gets so much attention where ever it goes!

it could be because of a new trunk gasket.. when i first replaced mine the trunk didn't really close flush because of the air inside the gasket.

nice car, but i get the feeling the writers don't know anything about E30s..
