I listened to a pod cast today and heard two interesting statements. First Anthony Davidson said that JV would not go out and qualify until Sato and Massa were done, because he didn’t trust them. I find this another JV oddity, when there were rumors that he got pressure to get laser eye surgery because it was thought he couldn’t see. That’s who you want driving your LMP at Le Mans at night.

The other thing was Button has to wait on a contract while Honda goes after Alonso. Why wouldn’t you dump Rubens and have an Alonso/Button line up. I know they are concentrating on next year already, but what makes Alonso think he would be happy in that car?

Silly season keeps me up at night.;)

Damnit, bring Jean Todt back or something. This was a huge mistake on Ferrari's part, Kimi could have won as he was catching up and was ready to pass Lewis....

Well, this is going to get interesting now with a 3 way tie! Awesome.

Damnit damnit damnit!!!! Shortly after my last post in this thread (see #401, pg. 27), the signal from my local cable provider took a shit when 24 laps remained in the race. The tube and my internet (both via Comcast) were out for the duration of the race.....so I basically missed the all the rain-soaked drama and spin jackassery. I couldn't believe it! Thankfully this race will be rebroadcast on Speed next Wednesday so I have a chance to catch what I missed. Still ticks me off though. Based on everything I've read here and the post-race newswire stories, it was a great race. Rain is truly the great equalizer when it comes to F1.

I know BMW was being safe, but if Heidfeld went on full wets during his last stop he easily could have won against lewis on inters, and even if they crapped out and it dried up, he still would have had 4-7 seconds a lap times X number of laps = plenty of time to go to intermediates and hold off lewis.

                Just a personal thought.

Hamilton ran away with that race. Heidfeld didnt have a chance to catch him, im sorry, but your living in a fairy tail.

Kimi was the only one with a shot at the win.

It would have been quite close if Heidfeld had gone to full wets. His last pit stop was at lap 20 or so, so considering he gains 4 seconds per lap (which is a pretty conservative guess) he would be right on Lewis' tail by the end of the race.

Regardless though, BMW should have used full wets on one of their cars, probably Kubica's. Quite a shame, because a finish of P6 or better could have put Kubi at the top of the WC.

                      I dont see it guys.

If the full wets were optimal, then why did Rubins stop a third time and give up 2nd to take on fuel, and swap to inters?

Hell, if you crunch the times.

                      Hami
                      Heidfeld + 68.5sec
                      Rubins + 82.2sec

Rublins 3rd and final stop took 26.864sec.

                      82.2 - 28.864 = 55.336sec

Rubins, excluding his last stop, beat Heidfeld. Had the fullrains been that much better im sure they would have kept him on them.

To be more to the point, the rains would of worn out as the track dried, 4 sec a lap is optimistic.

Rubens made up a LOT of time while using full wets, and during his second pit there was a problem with the refueling rig, so he may not have received all of the fuel he needed. I'll have to watch the race again when Speed airs it tomorrow to pay attention to how his tires were wearing, but I don't think they were degrading that badly. Had the refueling issue during his second pit not occured, he would have easily secured P2.

I don't think the full wets were an issue, I think he needed fuel and, upon noticing that the track was drying up in a few places, chose to get a set of intermediates as well.

You are correct. I forgot that he and JB were double stacked in the pits.

Still, i dont think fullrains would of let Heidfeld catch Hamilton.

it let rubens unlap himself, and secure 3rd. That took about 15 laps when the rain was falling, the track was still pretty wet till the end of the race.
I think Heidfeld had a great chance at a win if that had been the strategy, Ill also watch again tomorrow and see if i feel the same.

For anyone wanting to be able to watch the same thing that Bob, David, and Steve are during the practice, quali, or race sessions; there is the Live Timing feature on the Formula One website. It's free, and it displays all of the vital information during each session. I'm looking forward to watching it for the first time during P1 at Germany on Friday.
