So, an update: I got it mostly wired up with the amp only powering the sub, then the amp fried itself. I had the amp remote shorted to power at the time since the previous head unit install left the amp remote wire unused and I just wanted to hear it before I called it a night, but besides that everything else (which was very little, an input and an output to the sub which was wired correctly) was very basic and correctly hooked up. I opened it up to check what was fizzling.



Some capacitor or IC just exploded and got molten plastic everywhere. I called Luke and made sure I didn't do anything wrong and it looks like the amp is defective--I'm going to have to send it back and wait.

And I do charge for hugs. Romance explosions are extra.

Do something awesome to your car. Seriously. I had to teach myself how to wrench and start from scratch/dive in headfirst on pretty much everything I've done. Put your mind to do it and you'll make it happen.

Anyway, I shipped the defective amp back (to the tune of $60), if they deem it JBL's fault I will have the privilege of paying for them to ship me another one. Hopefully it gets lost in the mail and I get the full MSRP for another one.

Here's the sub I wanted to use in my Luke box next to the one that would fit.





To the Infinity's credit it still hits pretty damn hard, but I am teetering on the edge of shipping the JBL to Luke to get a custom box made, or maybe grabbing an SSA DCON and grinding it down to fit.

Oh, did I mention someone broke a bottle on the street right where my car was parked? I didn't have a broom but I managed to stay out of the glass




Regardless, it's way better now, no vibrations whatsoever. Plus I have some treats coming in the mail. :)

I hate going to alignment shops. When you turn every wrench on your car yourself the last thing you want to do is turn it over to some monkey and pay them a $69.99 flat rate just because you don't have a DSP600 at home.

I ask the guy what he set the toe to and he tells me thirty. I ask him if he means thirty minutes? He looks at me funny and says "no, degrees." Really? You set my toe to THIRTY DEGREES? REALLY now. I know what he meant but I sort of have a disposition to hate these guys since I'm paying them $70 to do 20 minutes of work I could easily do myself.
