Guys, Whats your opinion on using the jack/piece of wood to support the engine and swap subframes? Take sway bar off, with car on jackstands, undo motor mount bolts and tire rods to struts, lift engine a bit to lift off subframe, undo the 4 subframe bolts, pull out subframe+steering rack, swap steering rack from my broken subframe to reinforced subframe, put subframe back in, 4 bolts back in, let engine back down.

Think the pan will break under its own load? AC is gone so my m20 is a little lighter :)

Gaps in the factory welds were welded.

Other side was boxed in, also support plate welded inside.

    Sway bar tabs reinforced

Also bought some Rx-7 turbo 4 piston calipers for a budget BBK. Gonna get some Powerslot or Brembo Blank corrado g60 rotors. They guy who sold me the calipers dissasembled and bought new pins and springs for the pads in prep to rebuild, but never bought the seals, so I'll be finishing that up.

I will be grinding off the Mazda and most likely getting powder coated. Or plated? Dunno yet. Is there any options for upgrading rear brakes? Or does it not matter since they only do about 30% braking? Just get aggresive pads in rear to keep the front/rear bias good?

Also, the subframe is getting painted as we speak, waiting for paint to dry...will get a pic up when its done :)

The parts car is almost dissasembled :). Can't wait to get rid of it.

Here's some pics of the progress, started tearing down the block so it can go to the machine shop as well!

Let me know if any of you locals need suspension parts, cuz i dropped the whole front and rear suspension and is for sale.

Pulled my first engine!!! Whoot! Thanks Matteo for letting me borrow the hoist!

The old 250k m20b27, won't look like this much longer.

How the car sits now haha

    During tear down

Also got my front subframe that will get reinforced then swapped on my car to get it BACK ON THE ROAD! YEEE!

When I bought it I just thought well its better than regular eta with some goodies like ellipsoids, late model valence, and shorter aluminum bumpers oh and 6k redline. I dug around the forums everyone said that its the perfect starting plat form and I can see why easy stroker, easy plastic bumper conversion you name it. Im grateful that I got a supereta as not only my first e30 but as my first car as well.

Yup! SuperEta= the best e30 imo. you get best of both worlds. you can CHOOSE what car you want. Slow economy vehicle with style(e), or fast go-kart (327i), can either be 80's retro with old big bumpers. or like a newer vehicle with plastics.

I'm so happy I got an 88. except my engine will be pulled exactly how it is I think, my dad is pushing me to save the 300k mile engine as a complete as a spare for smog cuz i dont think my m20b29 turbo will pass. ahha.

Agreed, I can't wait till I get back in my e30. Good news, saturday i sold more parts on the parts car, also disconnected everything on the engine to the car, so the whole front and rear suspension will be dropped next weekend hopefully. Leaving the stripped shell for pick n pull.

Received my reinforcement plates for the subframe and also got front and rear sway bar reinforcements as well. Will get pics soon.

I hear you, man. I'm about to buy my 4th E30. One was donated to our Chump cr team, I've got an `87 Alpineweiss coupe that I've gutted to turn her into a SE30 racer, then there's my current DD/track car. Once I have the 4th (super-clean, M50-swapped Burtundrot early oupe w/ Euro bumps), that will be my new DD, and my current ride goes into the garage for a COMPLETE ground-up restoration. Then I, too, willhave a 'new' `88! This is a sickness...

Thanks. I caught the e30 bug badly. When my car is "finished" I'll prob be close to 20k into it haha...but it will be a brand new 1988 :)

I did smoke test. I had 3 leaks. Atleast thats what they pointed out to me. basically it was leaking out of both rubber rocker shaft plugs in between the fire wall and the back of the head right under the valve cover.

I also somehow pinched a piece of dirt in my gasket that didnt seal and had a small leak on the VC gasket, so new rocker shaft plugs, and valve cover gasket helped out a lot!

But then I bought a new ICV, and that really fixed my issues.

Although, my engines not idling perfect, Its much better, but i still feel I either have a ECU problem, or a small air leak somewhere else haha.

It could also be tuning now, because my car got tuned with the air leak....therefor it'd be rich right now i'd imagine.

May go back, but I dont wanna spend money on the 327i when I wanna build up this forged 2.9L M20.
