Andrew and I are going to do a leakdown test tomorrow. It's unlikely that there's anything wrong with it, but it's something I'd like to be sure of, especially since I have it out and on a stand. But if the leakdown is ok, I won't change it if I don't have to.

I got the damaged valve cover back today, I'll have to snap some pics tomorrow, the damaged areas are really interesting looking. They told me when I get my new one, they are going to chemically strip it in a tank, then pressure wash and quickly bake it to get all of the oils and everything off. No charge, too. :)

Tell you what. Move out of your parent's house, pay for your own food, room and board, get married, have a kid, and spend money on things like stuff for your home and repairs and service for your other cars, then we'll have a race to see who gets their car done first.

Besides, you know me well enough at this point to know that it's not about getting done fast, it's about being done well. But you go ahead. While you're scrambling to get your engine slapped back together and running, I'll be taking my time and making sure that every part of this swap adheres to my standards.

This is why this thread kicks ass, yet also including other topics that you brought up in this post.

The exact reason minus a wife why my e30 still hasn't gotten the s52 swapped in that's sitting next to my e30. God Damn kids and needing food and clothes!

Good luck on the swap, look forward to updates.

I don't think this really needs to continue to be debated...

Changing gears, the valve cover isn't nearly as bad as the guys at the shop made it sound. All of the "bad" spots will be covered by the coil cover, and the pitted areas can be filled with JB Weld and sanded, and since it's going to be wrinkle-painted anyway, I don't really think they'll even show up that much. Gonna primer it tomorrow and get the paint on Monday.

you can actually wash your valve cover in a dishwasher with some special detergent. Just dont let your wife find out.

New project, got a sudden burst of inspiration last night, from a combination of a white elephant christmas party gift and flipping through the latest issue of PBMW on the john (don't ask).
