I can't bring myself to clean parts much anymore. I know they are just going to get dirty and paint is going to chip. I'm just a sad boy...

        Status: HG repair. 488wtq though!

same here. Ive noticed if i clean something up it ends up failing on me. I just leave it dirty until it proves itself. Then it deserves the TLC lol.

I like that you're actually cleaning stuff. I don't get people who do swaps/builds and the engine looks like it sat in the bottom of a river for 20 years and then got dropped in a vat of used motor oil.

you'd better have the E30 M3 harness cover on order too!

Of course, I already have 2 of the 3 parts of it.

I HATE engine swaps that are like you described, filthy engine bays period. I remember that was the biggest reason why I HATED AndreNY's car, because so much work was done on the interior/exterior to make it look nice, and under the hood was an engine bay just like you described, home to a bone-stock disgusting-looking eta motor. Doing a solid deep-clean on your engine bay is hard, but once you've done it, keeping it that way is not hard at all.

                          Ok, fuck you threadjacking douchebags.

                          :D

Just got finished pulling apart/cleaning/reassembling the power steering pump, man that thing was nasty. Just need to order my gaskets, and I can bolt the master bracket back to the block and install the alternator.

My water pump looks/feels to be in perfect condition with no shaft play or noise, and looks fairly new, so I can probably just put it right back in.

Josh, pick up a late-model 80 amp alternator to replace that early-model 105 amp. It'll fail shortly after you put it back in commission, they were built like shit and your better off not going through the hassle. Sell that thing and get yourself the updated one while your still in the build phase.

I think we finally got the engine bay sealed up. Andrew came over night before last and finished up the welds, leaving behind on a few very small pinholes. I went over all the welded areas today with a thin coat of JB Weld to be sure that they were completely sealed.

Right now, I have a skim coat of spot filler/glazing putty over the low spots, and I'll sand it down tomorrow and keep working on leveling those areas out.
