Some more progress. With the motor starting to look pretty good, the throttle body looked pretty bad. I decided to take it apart and have it powdercoated but my PC guy thought the heat from the oven may damage the needle bearings. With parts for the throttle body mostly NLA, I decided against it and just painted it with some high temp ceramic paint. It turned out pretty good and looks better than when I started.

I also started mounting the charge pipes. The large u-shaped pipe mounts to the A/C and alternator brackets and since I no longer have A/C, I needed to make a bracket. No biggie, just bent some metal and sent it off to PC with some other stuff. Hopefully its back this week so I can button that up.

I also pulled the coil wire out of the plug wire harness to get a little more slack. I wanted to route it under the pipes and AFM as opposed to over the top. Again, no biggie. Its starting to look like an engine bay.

To do on my day off Thursday: Get downpipe and exhaust mounted, finish the mounts for oil cooler and heat exchangers. If I have time, figure out where to mount the pump and resevoir for the aftercooler. After that, its just a few little details here and there. I need to order my fittings for the oil cooler and drain from the turbo and get that all sorted.

Isn't your motor higher on that side because of the lowered motor mount arm? Meaning you'll need a thinner bushing to make up the difference?

It is just a tad higher with the holes moved up a 1/4" or so. It's done in order for the turbo to clear the motor mount arm.

Thanks, I'm beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel in terms of it running. I'm by no means finished though. I still have the interior and a couple sets of wheels waiting to be refinished.

I was off the last two days and with the weather finally cooperating, I finished my footings for our new deck.



I'm off Monday and Tuesday and plan to spend both days in the garage. The deck guy takes over from here, my obligation is finished with the footings~original

So as I mentioned in my above post, the downpipe didnt fit. After talking to a few other TCD owners, speaking with Todd(TCD), and trying some other motor mounts, I broke out the hammer. I was extremely hesitant to go this route but to be honest, it was no big deal.

I started by removing the heat shield and cutting out the insulation undeneath. I traced the shape of the shield before I took it off to make sure I didnt trim any more than needed. Once I had this all ready, I held the DP up and traced the area that needed to be persuaded. I was concerned that this would be difficult with the motor in the car but it really wasnt bad. Once I had the area pushed back, I mounted the DP and viola, fixed!

Once finished I put the stock heat shield back and used a small hammer to mold it to the new shape of the firewall.

Quick check with the DP and I now have plenty of clearance. I proceeded to wrap the DP in header wrap. I've done this before but this time I tried soaking the wrap in warm water for a few minutes. Definately the way to go. I will let it dry over night and mount it up tomorrow.

Also installed my SPAL pusher to the Mishimoto via Massive's brackets and mounted everything up with new hardware from BMW.

With the radiator in place I will start making the brackets for the oil cooler and heat exchangers for the aftercooler. I have tomorrow off so I hope to get that done and wrapped up.

Other than that, I'm hoping to have some oil fittings that I ordered and the brackets/hardware thats off at PC by the weekend so I can make some more progress.

Its been a while since I've had a chance to work on the car. My Grandfather fell ill 2 weeks ago and never recovered, he passed early this morning. Needless to say working on the car has not been a priority but today I needed an escape and went into the garage for a few hours and got some things acccomplished.

Brackets back from PC. I threw in an old UUC shift knob as well.

I have the VAC oil distribution block and needed to find a place to mount it. I ended up making a bracket out of aluminum and fastened it to the factory stud on the frame rail. I have the factory oil temp sender in place for my M3 cluster and then I have a future port for oil pressure. The oil line then continues on to feed the turbo.

Found a good spot to mount the BEGI. I will eventualy go MS so I didnt want to put it anywhere to permanent.

I hope to get back out in the garage tomorrow and finish my oil drain from the turbo and the lines for my oil cooler.

Thanks guys, the funeral was this past Monday and so its been a busy week with family and what not. I was able to get back out in the garage last night and get the heat exchangers and oil cooler mounted. I made the brackets out of angled aluminum and used stainless hardware to secure everything.

Downpipe and wastegate are installed. Did the final fitting for all of the charge air plumbing so I'm getting closer...:D

More progress today. I spent most of the afternoon trying to find a good spot for the aftercooler resevoir. I decided to go squeeze it in between the aftercooler and the driver side headlight.

Once I made my brackets I marked my holes and installed some nutserts. I used these to mount my brackets for the heat exchangers and oil cooler as well. I love these things, it makes for such a clean mounting point.
