70's and 80's bmw flywheels are basically the same, the ring gears are what separate them as stock pieces from what i understand.
M10 and M30 can be used on either engine, M10 flys using 215mm and 228mm clutches. You can't fit the M30 flys in a 4 cylinder gearbox.
I believe if you swap the ring gear on a M20 flywheel to a M10/30 ring gear it could be used. I am not 100% sure on that, though.Comment

The setup that Mike has is a euro m10 flywheel that's been machined to fit a 188mm twin disc tilton. I'm sure Otis can add more information, but there is more to it then just sourcing that flywheel and slapping a clutch on it.
That being said it's not hard to source the information you need spec wise the give to a machine shop, in-fact I have mechanical drawings for tilton clutches.
Kam I'm going this same route on my Seta, slightly different animal but same theory. I just ended up buying a flywheel setup for a 188mm clutch from the UK, I know the company I got mine from has an m10 flywheel made by ASP, I think its for a stock clutch though.sigpic

O I know. When the time comes I'll talk to Otis and mike to get everything I need. Just getting the main part for now so I have. Shit I still gotta build my motor.Comment

EDIT: THIS IS AND E36 FLYWHEEL, I'M USING AN M50 STARTER. You'd have to go the m10 flywheel route (because m30), this just gives you an idea of what you could do.

This is my clutch/flywheel setup. LTW chromoly flywheel by ASP made for a 7.25" (188mm) clutch. Weighs 2.9kg. (6.2lbs). the clutch is a quartermaster triple disc, I picked it up off of ebay from a wholesaler of used Nascar parts. Those teams are required to cycle out there parts after "X" amount of races. The housing is in great shape, just need to buy new discs to match the spline count of our transmissions. you can get those through tilton or Porterfield.
Flywheel - $600
Clutch - $240
Discs - $220
Total $1060. Total weight of the assembly is about 12lbs. and it rated for 1050ft.lbs. or torque.
You'd be able to beat that m30 like it stole your McDonalds French Fries.sigpic

is it possible to use an E30 M3 clutch and flywheel? I can get a CM stage 5 setup for that.

From what I googled it might work. One guy was gonna give it a whirl and see if it worked. Wouldn't a m5 clutch work?Comment

I can't answer that but I'm guessing you'd have to have a matching starter unless tooth count was the same. I don't know much about the m30 or s14...or m10 for that matter, just sharing what I know works.sigpic

Yes, this should work. S14 bottom end parts are interchangeable with 2002 (M10) parts so will work with M30. You can bolt a s14 starter on a standard M10 2002, s14 engine bolts on M10 or M30 gearbox, etc.
Alpina B6 E21 chassis used M30 with M10 flywheel/clutch on 245 (M10) gearbox with no special parts.Comment
