I still need to figure out what I want to do with it. I wasn't planning on a swap but it showed up for so cheap on Craigslist that I couldn't pass it up lol

Been looking for a set of S52 cams... They all seem to be like ~$300... Is that really the going rate for them? Are they worth it at that price?

I'd say $300 is a great price. I usually see them go for more.

If you want to do it on a budget you can just get an M54b30 intake cam and use a NV M50 intake cam on the exhaust side. Nice set of cams (arguably better suited for a 2.8 than S52 cams anyway) for less than $100.

                  They're both 240dur, 9.7 lift I believe, whereas S52 is roughly 250, 10.2 intake and 244 / 9.7 exhaust

Look into a pair of riot racing cams. They're re-grinds, but tons of people have had success with them. I'll be getting a set for my brother's m50.

Those sure look nice. Bit too expensive for this engine, currently though.

Riots aren't worth it anymore. When they were ~$500 including core, sure. Now that they're double that, I don't know why you wouldn't just buy some schricks for another $50.

As for the ZHP intake/M50NV exhaust setup, it seems like a lot of work to time them right vs the S50/2 cams.

For most it's a pain, but if you're used to degreeing your cams it's a good way to save $$. S52 cams are most definitely a more simple solution!

I'm thinking I'm just gonna keep an eye out for some S52 cams at a decent price.

As for today, I start tearing down the engine. I found some cut wires, and hoses... so those will be fun to sort out. I also determined it is a B28... I wasn't entirely sure before lol

I'm also still on the fence of OBD2 vs OBD1... I did already pick up an OBD2 DME with the EWS bypassed.

Here's the engine in all its disgusting glory

Stuffed away in the corner for now

Along with a box of shit that may or may not make it back on the engine...

I'm also keeping a beer tally for this swap.

                            3 down,

I would go OBD2 if you can. Though I would look for an OBD1 intake manifold while you're at it
