        Currently own two E30s, a 530iT, and a Lancer. They're all broken.

I needed something reliable, so I purchased something reliable, rather than continuing to dump money into an unreliable car trying to make it reliable. Also, the touring isn't AWD, and I needed something AWD with towing capacity and cargo space as my main vehicle. Selling all vehicles except for Heidi- keeping her as my weekend car and using the Forester as my daily.

My "ix" is my daily/winter. My "i" is my summer/nice days/project car. I love them both. Rebuild everything and replace all the old and it will be reliable. What is your other E30? Pics? Details?

That's just the thing- The iX doesn't have enough space to be a daily, and I would prefer to keep it out of the salt. I want to keep that one for quite some time, so I've devoted it to a slow project weekend car.

The touring was supposed to be my daily, but that didn't work out. I don't have the time anymore to dump into an E30/E34, so using it as a daily is simply not an option.

The Forester drives fantastic, timing belt intervals are every 105K as opposed to 50K, and comparatively speaking, it's just a newer car. I'm 100% over using a 20-25 y/o car as a daily. I've wasted thousands on thousands of dollars trying to make it happen my whole life, and it just won't. I still love the E30, it's just not a practical daily driver for me.

The other car is an '86 325es. I'll post details when it's ready to be sold.

I need to figure out when I should eventually take the iX off daily/winter duty. I've put around 100K+ since I've owned it in 2009, and I know the thing is going to start rotting if I keep running it thru the abuse its' been getting.

Maybe after this winter, I may rethink my future plans with it.

I have an E46, but its' not necessarily winter capable!

E90s I despise for some reason.

                  I do like E70's but w/ my commute...I really need a 4-banger.

As long as you don't let the car go too long you should have no problems restoring it. Audiquattrot, I have read your build thread and you restored your car nicely. Why not do it again when it starts to get bad again.

No car will last forever but if you maintain it, it will last longer. And when it starts to get bad restore it. I feel if you are going to drive you should drive something you enjoy driving. Just keep restoring it. That is what I plan on doing.

Absolutely. Winters destroy the car on the East Coast, as you know. The rust that appeared on the red car in one season made me positive I wasn't going to do that to this one.

If I didn't need to the cargo space and headroom I totally would've! There wasn't a Bimmer that fit my needs.

I know I don't need to defend myself but...

Driving a suitable, fun daily that doesn't require much thought is one of the best decisions I've ever made. Just getting in a newer, quiet car that rides nice, etc, is fantastic, and in turn also makes me love the iX for what it is even more.

Now that I have a daily that I don't have to worry about I can put the care into the iX that it needs and focus on driving it for what it was meant for rather than just keep it running so it gets me to work. It's a whole different ball game, and it's the exact change I needed.
