I applaud your effeorts and the rate your getting it done but, I'd be lying if I didn't tell you that I think speeding through the job is gonna come back to haunt you.
Did you sand the chrome off the shadowline at all? It looks shinier than a mirror. I just painted mine today and I sanded the shit out of it with a DA sander with 180 and 80 grit by hand and the down to 220 before I used self etching primer. People have said before that you can't get the chrome off but you can clearly see while sanding, a line left by where there is no longer no chrome. I'd hate to say it but I think your shadowline is gonna peel like mad.
How did you get the chrome pieces off the moon shaped C pillars???
It looks great, can't wait to see it done, Hope it works out.

Vdubin01- Thanks manm but i have to come to a pause now. I am out of money :(
E-rich- I am not into performance as much in this car right now. Maybe in the near future. I am going with KYB GR2 shocks with eibach springs. I also wnat to get the sportmax 002's like yours in 16x8 with 195/50/16 tires.
Silence*- Thanks
Mr. Anderson- Honestly after al you guys told me i am also. But i have also seen a lot worse. This paint job should only lst me 1 or 2 years. If i still have the car after that i will do a full paint job and spend big bucks on it. The thing is this car is supposed to be my daily, and to be built on a budget. I couldnt justify putting a 2500.00 paint job on it right now.
Fanzotti- Thanks, i am not speeding through it. I had a certain amount of money to spend to get things done. Now i am out :(. WHeni get more i will start back up. And everything i have done is when i have spare time. I havent touche the lights since the last updats because of school and work. I know not everyhting i might do on this car mmight not be the "right" way, the bondo an example, but i am doing it my self with the little knowlege i have. But most people can not say that. I saw the bondo today and it looks pretty good on the car. On a few of the huge dents it looks like door dings now, but over all the body looks straight and has no major dents and like 2 or 3 dings. Things only i would notice, or you guys. The only dents that were not completly smooth was the one on the bottom of the back pass door, but it still does not look bad. Tommarow when it is done i could see the final result. It is also a learing process for me. Wow, i am soory i went off topic and just spoke random crap about the car. LOL
About the window strips, i think you are right, it seems like it could peel off easy. I am going to try the DA sander tommarow and do them over again. I am afaid it wont come out smooth anymore because the alluminum is so thin. Are yours smooth.
For the moon thing, there are little clips that hold it on. You are supposed to slide it off, but mine was so old i had to break them off. Be very careful, use small screw drivers to loosen it out. The metal bends really easy.
Thanks.Last edited by motorsports_3; 04-21-2007, 10:56 PM.

I wouldn't be worried about the amount of bondo, unless there are layers over 2mm thick. The thing I'm worried is that aerosol primer you used, not a biggie, but you had the car primed in rain and that aerosol primer wont seal the surface against the moisture, if you didn't sand all that rained over primer away you have good chances of having moisture or some surface rust uder your paint.
Hope you're satisfied with the result, new paint can really be rewarding after a hard job.Current:

Not knocking you or anything, you've done a great job.

The way I sanded the chrome off the shadowline was by hitting as many areas as possible with a DA sander and 180 grit. The spots I couldn't hit were done by hand with 80 grit. I've heard you can't get all the chrome off but you can clearly see a line where shiny mirrory chrome ends and sanded metal where there is no longer no chrome begins. Then by hand I cleaned it up with 220.
Don't sand off the black pieces, just scuff them with 400 then straight to paint.

Finally, sorry for the long time with no update. I have been really busy with finals, and work and the rest of the fun things in life. L This is a pretty big update.
I got the car back, finished the tails, touched stuff up, and almost finished the moldings.
The car still needs to be touched up, and wetsanded and buffed, but this will give you a better idea on how it will look.
Honestly, it looks really good in the pics but the paint is not perfect. The prep done by me wasn’t the best, but I expected that. A few spot where I fixed was a little wavy, and there are dings that I never noticed before. Overall it looks good and a million times better than before. For 800.00 to paint it I got a really good job.
The total cost now is around $1600-1700.
Here are pics of it painted. I primed the side skirts, and rear bumper area. These still need to be painted
Sunroof and seal on. Working great by the way, finally.
Door handles, and lock on and working now. J
Parts ready to clear
Wet sanding taillights.
Tail lights sanded
Painting moldings
But for some reason it isn’t shooting. Gun must be dirty.
Cleaning out the gun
Painting again
I hate this part. Cleaning the damn gun.
Clear coating tails
Doing my friends 240sx valve cover
All together
Various side markers, and blinkers
Window trim
Cleaning the big gun out, L
Completed tails, all they need now is to wet sanded and buffed.
B Pillar work
Primer
Base
Wet sand
Next coat
Complete
And finally wet sand moldings
That’s it for now, I should post another update around Friday or Saturday.
