I believe I need something like 22x8x3 overall or something to that affect for a front mount.

I've got a starion intercooler with modified end tanks. See sig, it's decent sized and fits easily.

How exactly did you modify them?

        What is the outlet measurement?

          16.5x8x2.75

I didn't do the modifying personally, but somebody changed the outlet to 2.5".

look into Audi intercoolers too. old stuff like Audi-80/90 and Audi 5000/4000 turbo.
they are plastic tanked and the in and out are on the same side, but they are bigger and can be found cheap

i also have a Mercedes Benz inter cooler that i will let go cheap. it has the in and out on opposite sides.

Ok so here is the modified manifold.

I know the welds are ugly but they are very strong.

Budget turbo build, oh yeah, nothing can go wrong here.

Oh well, we shall soon see.

It'll work, alot of M42 guys run this manifold, at least low boost guys.

I know quite a bit can go wrong here, but I'm doing what I can within my means to make sure nothing does. The key, as in most car modifying is go cheap on the stuff that isn't that important and expensive on what you really need.

Maybe it's just me, but I always heard that lower CR motors respond well to boost. Of course, the M42 is something like 10.1:1 so I'm not so sure about how well it'll work out. Can anyone validate this myth/fact?

                                Its true.

But lower boost is very doable on an M42.

I've done alot of research on this, I'm not walking in blind.
