Why I want an 85ish LHD (imported) Diesel D90 defender, hard top for a DD with a few modern conveniences modded in like sat radio, and heated seats

Insurance fraud? You're not making a false claim.

You just have to be clever in how you'd get around it. How I could envision the hack working is that you is that you could capture the data streaming from your OBD port - and then go on a nice easy drive. The once you have that data, build a microcontroller that would feed the "snapshot" device this data, over and over again. So while you are out driving aggressively, the "snapshot" thinks you're drive like an old lady - and it will do it's thing sending it's data. No "hacking" the device. No FCC problems.
Jail breaking a phone is a software issue. Apple may not like it.

The FCC gets involved with the broadcast of information and tampering of electronic goods for purposes other than intended, designed, manufactured, etc. It is why nearly every piece of electronic gadgetry comes with the FCC warning. 900MHz phones which could listen in on each other would happen by accident..if you tweaked the phone to do that now you are violating things the FCC holds dear. As well as the wiretapping type stuff you would be getting into.....that is an example. It applies to this in the sense this is a broadcasting piece of hardware that is designed to collect data and if made to do otherwise, coupled with its broadcasting, makes for some hairy legal stuff.

Insurance fraud. Where is the confusion? You are getting insurance coverage at discounted rates under false pretense. You are suggesting to alter the device so it records incorrectly or inaccurately so as to misrepresent information for your own benefit. See how it works out. Or call up your agent and adjust your coverage. Just lie.

Now you could adjust the vehicle itself to give the device false data. Tweaking the car than the device... A device most likely owned and under the control of Geico... Not you. But you still have a problem of tweaking the vehicle and falsification of odometer ......

Deal is there is a law most likely to get you .....

Your permission may not be necessary. A warrant will allow an investigator to retrieve the unit and data stored therein.

And the roadway evidence can't lie anyhow...

Wow dude. You just make stuff up as you go along. I was just telling you how it could be done. I could care less what you *think* might happen. I'll just let you pretend to be the lawyer.

right, But they have to obtain a warrant at that point and have to show a judge probable cause and reasonable need to be allowed to search your shit . Since you have told them to fuck off in the 1st place when dealing with your private property.. Just like you can tell them to shove it, when they ask you voluntarily submit to a search.

I'm really tempted to get the cheapest plan possible. Plug this into my maxima. put it up on jackstands, and set the cruise at 150 until the engine or transmission blows.

See what they do. If they ask. "My BMW doesn't have OBD II......'

                    Maxima cruise won't activate past 90... I've tried it. :p (was a 4th gen)

Mines a 4th gen too.... I do believe I set it at 120 once. I needed to get to Green bay really quickly. Figured if I saw a cop I'd floor it and get off on the next exit.
But that was a long time ago. And if I didn't. FUCK!
                      That's out the window.

It would be kinda funny to tell them "My BMW doesn't have OBDII? I shoved it in the plug in the trunk that looked like it fit. It took some struggling and a little bit of reinforcement. But eventually she relaxed and it fit right on in."

that's because it's all mechanical. the e30 cruise control doesnt know how fast you're going, only how far open the TB should be.

Too simple for me to try it. I demand more complicated ways of doing it! BLAAARRRGGG!

I still am really, really tempted..... I know that thing reached 150ish....
