I remember when i worked at dodge, they would pull up the data log for warrenty claims sometimes.seien Sie größer, als Sie erscheinen

The FCC stuff..... Are you familiar with this government entity? Ever try and build your own FM? How powerful? Notice the kits are so small in wattage? Try and set up your own 5000 watt station. See how that works. it us all regulated.... Tightly.. maybe even rightfully so. Try to block cell phone reception, tamper with broadcasting equipment,......
And you are correct I am not a lawyer. Got that part right. Not sure why you are so butt hurt about everything. You're not a sommelier either....

I know. He's talking out of his ass.
I'd take FCC legal advice from a cop - just like I'd let my dermatologist do brain surgery.

If this kind of crap even get mandated for everyone to have, what about people with older cars without OBD? would they not be able to get insurance, or would they be exempt?
The thought of this monitoring scares me. Because now the insurance company would know where you are/car is, where you go, then sell this information to others.

does the FCC get involved over "illegal" things sent over the internet, wirelessly? no? okay then.

Here it comes creeping in for real.....
Your thoughts???Originally posted by Pac1373 View PostBig Brother under the hood? read about this quite a while ago. if people accept this, it will be "mandatory" everywhere within 5 years I bet.
this is not at all ok imho.
(hav'nt seen the add's, I assume this is the monitor that records all Auto speed/rpm/braking,etc. data...)Originally posted by mrsleeve View PostYes this prospect makes me very scared.
The fact that there are people out there willing to give up so much privacy to save a couple of hundred bucks or less a year disgusted me and saddens me a great dealOriginally posted by FunfGan View PostSo its pretty much a black box and a big brother in one? I don't want to live on this planet anymore.Originally posted by M-technik-3 View PostReason to have an OBD I car. Screw big brother, I don't concede to be monitored, and if I have an OBD II car an I'm in an accident you don't have permission to datalog my car's black box.

I think that it is hilarious that you are all making a fuss and crying "BIG BROTHER" about this thing. All it records is vehicle speed, time, distance driven (calculated from time/speed data) and frequency of "hard" braking. It is not watching where you are.
This device does not know *where* you drive.
It doesn't know what the speed limit is or if you are exceeding it.
They will not use ANY data from this device to determine your insurance rate if you cancel... so using this will not raise your rates.
They cannot use data from the device to resolve a claim unless you give them permission. So this device can help you in a claim, but it cannot hurt you.
You have it on your car for 30 days and then remove it. It isn't on there perpetually.
So.... can someone tell me what the big fuss is about? If my insurance company offered this, I would do it. I literally see absolutely nothing wrong with this.
And to those who think this is just the first step towards this being a law-mandated thing: who cares? If these were installed on every person's car, the rates that auto insurers charge would be MUCH more fair than they are presently. Think about it... aside from personal history, premiums are based on statistics -- it's one big generalization clusterfuck. They lump you together with other people "like" you and assume that you drive how they do. So a young male that drives 3 miles to and from work and is actually a good, defensive driver gets charged the same as the terrible, aggressive ass hole that is on the road 100 miles a day. That's not fair, right? Well, if the insurance company had actual data about each person's driving, they would charge premiums accordingly. And realistically, you can tell a TON about a person's risk of collision with very simple data (mileage/time of day and a two-axis accelerometer would paint a pretty damn good picture).
So once again, what's the big deal?Last edited by TwoJ's; 11-25-2011, 05:16 AM.
