I have had both a roll bar and a roll cage in two different cars. I prefer the weld in , in either roll bar or roll cage. It gave me piece of mind and felt a lot more substantial then a bolt in. Don't get a harness bar ever. Don't get a four point belts. If you do a weld in consider wether or not you will ever want a full cage, sometimes its more expensive/harder to add the front half of a cage when the back half is already there. Also anything involved in the back half of the car will become exponentially more pain in the assey with a roll bar/cage. Whomever you have do it see their work prior to having it done, not pics but in person. Head room is crucial, you have to fit in the car with a helmet, and its annoying when your head bumps the cage in a helmet.

"Do you ride a motorbike?"
"No, but you see, I have a full roll cage in my car, so if I was to crash it without wearing this helmet, it would basically kill me".The first car I ever rode in was an e30

if its just a weekend racer, just do a good bolt in kirk or autopower 4pt untill you decide to move into another car or turn your car into a full dedicated track car where a full weld in cage is needed.95 7.1L 16V E36 M3

I have one of each. My E30 is set up as an HPDE/weekend toy. It's got a custom 4-point rollbar with removable harness bar, Recaro SRD seats, and Willans 6-point NASCAR harnesses:
My 190E Cosworth is set up as a dedicated racecar. It's got a custom 6-point rollcage with integrated seat mounts, Recaro Pole Position seats, Sabaelt 6-point harnesses, window and center nets, and deactivated airbag:
They serve different purposes. The Mercedes is definitely safer on the track, as long as you're wearing an SA-approved heltmet and HANS device. But I wouldn't feel comfortable driving it around on the street. That means I can only enjoy the car a handful of weekends each season. The rest of the year, it's sitting in storage.
My E30 definitely gives up some safety on the track compared to the 190E, but it's probably better than when it was totally stock. It's a compromise: not as safe a full-cage plus fixed-back seats on the track; but you can actually run it on the street without too much hassle. The idea was to be able to drive to an event, spend the weekend at the track, then load up and go home. No need for trailering. We designed the rollbar and used reclining seats so we could easily load 4 race tires in the backseat area.
Like I said, it's a compromise...but it works for my needs. I've gotten more enjoyment from the E30 because I can just jump in and drive it whenever I feel like it. Once you fully cage a car, that option is off the table.sigpic
