    No

Put the difference of what you spend versus what you would have spent with the M3 lease in the stock market or some other item like mutual fund and in 5 to 10 years you can easily have both.

Never understood the extremely simplistic view that leasing is simply throwing money away. Whether or not you own or lease, the depreciation is going to take it's toll on the value of the vehicle over 3 years. It's not as simple as thinking because it's not yours at the end it's wasting money. By that rationale no one should buy new cars, and while that's probably the popular opinion on this forum I'd wager it has more to do with a lack of ability to purchase new rather than truly being the logical route.

Taking the OP's car as an example, at the end of a 3-year term the resale value of the vehicle is likely going to be somewhere around the purchase price minus the amount ($16,200) he's put into the lease, it's not going to only drop a few thousand dollars. One needs to also consider the serious tax savings on a lease vs. a purchase, you're only paying taxes on your payments unlike paying tax on the entire purchase. This will almost certainly yield a smaller loss incurred over a short period of time.

There's also the big benefit of having the option to walk away. If at the end of the 3 years you decide you don't like the vehicle, it's gone. There's no warranty headache, a very real concern with the price of fixing an M car. You simply hand over the keys and be on your way so long as you stuck to the terms and did not abuse it.

I have only leased a car once to get out from under a car payment. Traded the car in and padded that into the lease deal and when i turned it in everything went away. I needed to get a 4 wheel drive truck as i was living in Big Bear Lake . I couldn't buy it at the time. It actually felt like i went into enterprise rent a car and said let me rent a car for 3 years.

Maybe just the poor in me speaking but I would not lease any car. Wife has a rule about cars? No comment...

Also, the reason for not considering a dct M3 is we currently have a 1 yr wait on M3's. This was ordered for a customer who backed out at the last minute.

I agree this would make a better addition verse a replacement.
Haha, it was worth a shot!

Anyway, your e30 is a beauty.

              thanks for that.

its odd to me that noone has said you can always get another E30 after. also its interesting everyone has simply focused on the total payments on the M3, and noone has thought for $15/ day I could spin around in a beast.

I am now certain I could not break the emotional bond I have with my E30.
and in a world based on logic and reason i would just trade-in my 2010 100k+ daily for the M3. simple reasons that car wont be worth anything in 3 years plus saves me from all the maintence costs on a 100k diesel.
but trying to keep wife happy means neglecting logic.
I love that people ask stupid questions so I dont have.

Honestly, if I could spend $450 a month and still be putting (cobsiderable) money into savings, by by e30.

I've been tossing around the idea of a lease for a DD. Already decided my wife will he getting a near new SUV when we have another kid. Its one thing to be doing constant small repairs on my car, but when every car in the house is high mileage and paid off, I'd take the payments in exchange for not having to worry about anything.

Also, its just a car. I've regretted selling plenty of cars, but in reality none have affected me in any way. Everything not living can be replaced.

Do whatever will result in the most fun, without hurting your home life or affecting your ability to provided.

I make no presumptions about your financial situation, but it seems that what makes the F30 enticing to you is the employee pricing. In the event you are forced to buy the car at the end of the lease (it happens a lot), can you handle the cost of ownership once the free maintenance ends? Consumables are expensive, even with a discount.

How much will the F30 cost to insure?

Keep in mind that E30 is appreciating, while the F30 will depreciate the moment you drive it off the lot.

Keep the e30, buy an automatic BMW 2002 and convert it. This will allow you to get past your wife's bullshit "one manual" rule, while planning the manual swap. The 2002 will be more fun to drive than the m3. Trust me, I've seen it all done done most of it.

Trade in the wife instead. Only one manual car allowed? WTF?

Never have seen a situation where someone is forced to buy car at end of lease? This makes no sense and does not happen unless person decides to buy their car. Even then the dealer would make every effort to buy the car and sell the same car back to customer as a CPO. If anything at the end of the lease I would try to sell the M3 private for a profit considering the extremely low production numbers of this car.

Insurance and 30% into savings each month is not a problem at the current payment quote. Has someone already said its the ee pricing that has me so tempted. Would I consider a new M3 at $900-$1100 month (average cost to purchase) HELL NO. But, at only $450 a month for only 3 years is damn tempting. Then I can just drop the mic and walk away...
