PS, I got kicked out, and my parents paid my way back in, if that says anything about the school.
Basically at our school, the "religion" classes were supposed to be a joke. Basically if you show up you get an A. This bitch tried to teach me things, and that pissed me off.
I more or less had the last "good" year there. The school went down the shitter really quick. When I was there junior and senior year, 4 teachers got fired, and after senior year, 5 more quit because of the bullshit. Pretty good considering how there is maybe 20-25 teachers int he whole school.
One teacher (boys basketball coach) got fired because he put some kid on the sidelines at a basketball game because the kid was being an asshole to him. Well the kids parents basically fund the fucking school and they threatened to stop donating if the teacher/coach wasn't fired. He was fired. Pissed me off.Rollin' with a Geistkuchen

The fact that the unexplainable occours due to you random occouring effects coinciding makes it easier for religious believers to be confident in their beliefs as once again it is something that people cannot understand therefore are required by there own sub-concious to try and find something that will explain it.

you must have misread. I meant it as there is no creator. Everything that is around us has taken millions of years to create due to evolution and in a few billion years the gravitional effect that is pushing the universe outwards atm will slow and stop then reverse and the cycle will repeat. Humanity cannot understand the fact the the universe has always been there. We are incapable of thinking it due to the fact that everything around us begins and ends

My wife is pretty religious and when we got married we agreed that she could raise the kids believing the same stuff she believes. I just keep my mouth shut. It's amazing how hard her parents and her work to indoctrinate our kids. Until you've seen a kid immersed in this stuff from an outside perspective, you have no idea of the kind of brainwashing that goes on. My wife's family will teach our kids to accept Jesus before they'll teach them how to read.
The idea of pretending that there is any legitimacy to this stuff in a public school is upsetting. You might as well teach Santa Claus Studies. That's just my perspective, I'm not trying to offend anyone.

The simple fact is that we cannot explain everything. We as humans do not have the capacity to explain everything. We never will. We simply have to make good, educated guesses based upon what evidence we can gather and interpret.
For example, I am 99.9999% sure that we are here because of chance. Our galaxy/solar system/planet/etc. is the way it is simply by chance. Even though it makes little sense, the reason why I say there may have been some creator is because I cannot prove, or observe proof otherwise.

We as humans will never know the answer to that. We simply will never be around long enough to see the answer, and we haven't been here long enough to make an educated guess.

the leading theory based of what we can currently see is a heat death - the universe expansion accelerating until all matter is pulled apart. but obviously none of us will be around to see that happen. :p

Nando, we will very likely never know. There is no way that we can determine how much matter; or mass, is in the universe. It is widely accepted that we cannot determine how much of the universe we can even see. We may only be able to see 5% of the universe. Sure, we could eventually develop highly sophisticated instruments, but there is a physical limit to how much we can look at. Add that to the fact that not all matter in the universe lets light escape (dark matter, singularities) and it is easy to see that it is almost sure that we will never know the fate of our universe.
Also, even if we could know how much mass there is in the universe, it would take a GUT (grand unification theory) to even consider making an 'educated guess' about anything related to what we are talking about. A legitimate GUT would show Einstein's theory of relativity to be not correct in certain situations, and the whole world of physics would be turned upside down for a decade or two.
By the way, a GUT would have to provide laws of nature that are applicable for EVERY type of physical interaction. So it would have to hold up for electro-magnetic, gravitational, weak nuclear and strong nuclear forces. I'm not going to say it's impossible, but it is highly likely that the human race will never come up with such a thing.
And this isn't just the ramblings of some college kid, it is the opinion of some of the greatest physicists in the world.
