The Crusades and the Contributions of Islam

    Things you should know:

Islam spread far from its birthplace in the modern nation of Saudi Arabia. By AD1095, Muslim territory included land where Jesus Christ lived. Christians warriors of the era believed Christians, not Muslims, should control their holy lands.
The Crusades were a series of wars initiated by Christians to win back their holy lands from Muslims.
The Crusaders were ultimately unable to reclaim their holy lands, but the wars had another effect: Western Europeans had left their homes to fight in a distant war. The stories of the returning Crusaders encouraged their countrymen to look beyond their own villages for the first time.

The Turks and the First Crusade
The modern nation of Turkey is named for its Turkish inhabitants, but the Turks were not originally from Turkey. The Turks were nomadic people from Central Asia. Many Turks remain in that area, in fact, there is a nation in Central Asia known as Turkmenistan (“land of the Turks”).

One Turkish tribe, the Seljuks, began moving into the Anatolian peninsula, or what we now call Turkey. These Turks were Muslims, and a Christian emperor, Alexius I, controlled the peninsula. Alexius appealed to the Pope to help him rid Anatolia of “the unbelievers.”

Pope Urban II received Alexius’s call for assistance, but decided to use that call to advance a more ambitious plan. Jerusalem, on the east coast of the Mediterranean Sea in the modern nation of Israel, is considered holy land to Christians, Jews and Muslims, but in 1095, the city was controlled by Muslims. The message from Alexius presented Urban with an opportunity to retake the holy lands from the Muslims. The pope called for a “War of the Cross,” or Crusade, to retake the holy lands from the unbelievers.

Pope Urban persuaded the knights of Europe to join the Crusades

Urban appealed to the knight's religious convictions
Urban said Muslim Turks were robbing and torturing Christian pilgrims journeying to the holy land.
The war offered knights a chance for glory and wealth.
Urban suggested the knights fight Muslims instead of continuing to fight one another.

remember I said we have the right to defend ourselves, religion and land. so when the crusaders came and attacked all the muslims did was defend themselves. I would like to write a 30 page post here about Islam and its history, but this is not the place for that. this is a car forum and I am just here to bullshit with fellow member about e30's. lol. I just dont like it when people talk negative about Islam when they have no knowledge about the religion. I respect all religions, race and color but will always defend my religion. Thats my faith, I love and respect it.

I just dont get it when a muslim does something wrong its a big fukn deal. But if its a jew, christian, hindu or whatever then its ok or there is an excuse. To my understanding the ships that were going to Gaza for aid had U.S politician, some jews and many other organizers. This wasnt a ship that Iran sent with missles to bombard Israel, it was just helping the hopeless people In gaza with food, medicine, building material etc to help them survive. So why did Israel have to go nuts by killing people. do you guys actually think thats ok and they should be allowed to shit like that. I can just imagine a muslim country doing that to an Israeli or American ship. The following week that country would be a debris heaven. It will get bombarded like hell.
Crusades and muslim conquest are 500 years apart. What the fuck are you talking about? 30 pages of what? You don't have a grasp on your religion's origins and yet you're trying to tell others what's in koran? Why? It was written by the hand of man like everything else. There's no proof of it being holy in any way. Stop trying to prove theological concepts as if they were facts. Just accept that it's your faith, whether it's right or not. That would be the respectful thing to do.

As far as Iran sending things to Gaza... yes, they have sent weapons before. They supported election of Hamas and Iran has been a thorn in Israel's ass for quite sometime. So yes, Israel should be twice as careful about Iranian "aid".

I am also 100% sure of what is in the Koran, and interpretations are just as wide as all other interpretations of religious documents vary.

Besides, in your description up top, you took a moral high ground, by stating something that's supposed to be taken by faith as a fact. Very narrow minded and that's how all the conflicts start...

Lee, the purpose of the Islamist is singular in nature; the total and utter destruction of human freedom in the name of Allah. Israel is the excuse now; who is next. " All animals are equal, though some are more equal than others."

Lee, I'll point you to the fourth chapter (IIRC) of Timothy Keller's book, "The Reason for God". He goes over quite a few points and makes some counter points. I'd paraphrase, but I don't want to make a mess of what he says better than I can. This is an honest challange to expand your view or at least respond in a basic sense. I'll do like-wise if you have any literature you'd want me to read.

Remove the cum you have in your eyes, buddy. You are getting pretty confused between Jewism and Sionisim. Point to me one single anti-Jewish comment I made. But yeah, you are right if you find anti-Sionist comments. I have clearly stated the difference in several occasions, just knowing that dickheads like you, with a very limited understanding, will be quick to point to anit-semitism. Laughable.
