You are stupid.
Friend of mine posted this on facebook, thought it was good for a chuckle.
Dear Mr. / Ms. Wallstreet Protestor,
It's time to go home. Last night, the Seattle Police enforced the law (yes, it's still your right to assemble in Seattle, just not to camp overnight in city parks or streets). So they put the cuffs on you, and packed up your tents. (Wait, tents? Yes! Tents! Not homemade ones, but nice ones made by companies like Coleman and REI!) So you pulled out your c...ell phone (so what's the latest smart phone do YOU have?) and called the local tv network affiliates--ABC, NBC, CBS (just so you know, with the exception of CBS, the 'C' stands for COMPANY) so they could televise the spectacle of you being pushed into the squad car and your backpack (Northface or Columbia?) thrown in after you. Until you are willing to give up the luxuries afforded by the existance of large companies and the people willing to invest in them, your message (?) means nothing, you hypocrit. After you sort out your current legal troubles, go home, do something productive with your life, and start investing in your own 401K (you're going to need it--by time you come to the trough, Social Security will have dried up long before).

The point I was trying to make is that simply making money is not a measure of anything noble.
There's a lot of people out there that work super hard make shit loads of money, but they contribute absolutely nothing to society. If anything they're just leeches and rapists.Comment

and you think all the people "occupying wall street" are contributing to society?Comment

What is bene's definition of a better place, and furthermore having a username that is slang for benefits is pretty ironic.Comment

Not worshiping artificial resources would be a good start. And Bene is a family nickname I had when I was a kid, don't put too much though into it.Comment

Oh I get it, because I have a small amount of success I should spread it around to those that dont right, or should the govt take it from me and do it. Because I have made the hard choices and sacrifices to make something for my self and provide well for my family I should be punished right???? Its not fair that I have made something of myself and others haven't. I have offered many people the OPPORTUNITY to get into my line of work, every time I am turned down because they are unwilling to do what I do, when they get the details.Originally posted by BeneI'm sure your pile of bananas is very impressive, but what have you done to make the world a better place?
If you must know we donate time (when I am home and have it) and money to a few choice local organizations. One that really stands out in my mind that I dont talk about much as it seems too much like tooting my own horn. While I was on a job in PA, I paid for more than 2 weeks worth of food for a family of 4 that I had never meet before other than standing in line in front of them at the store while getting some beer and ice cream. Turned out the family had been hard up for a long time, and they were spending their last dime on food for the kids, rather than rent. They refused to take any govt assistance for anything and were trying to feed their kids and were "going to figure something out for the rent". I ran into them 8 months latter or so, they knew me right off, their luck had looked up after that night in the grocery store, they both said "all they needed was a little hope, and my generosity gave them that".
Is that bettering enough for you????
SO really what have you done to better the world???

This thread veered into opportunity vs lazy way before my post. And now you dont want to threadjack? BS. But my question could have been clearer.
How far does corrupt business have go before you will say enough? How deep into government will corrupt business get its claws before you can speak up not only against government, but corrupt business as well?
How low do wages, work conditions, environmental responsibility, standards of living have to go? Should anyone have stepped in against the monopolizing and corrupt business of the early 20th century that were responsible for child labor, deadly working conditions, polution, etc. Just be thankful they gave us a job in the first place?
Its a fundamental question: do you think we have a say on how a business runs its business in our country? And when do we say? Some of the OCS people have said where they stand. What say you?Comment

It's not the fact that corporations make extreme amounts of money that should bother anyone.
What should be totally forbidden is all, I mean ALL, campaign donations and lobbies. The marriage of corporate (or religious, or any other) interests and political parties/individuals through donations is nothing but legalized corruption. People should be elected for their political mindset (be it left or right), their solutions to problems, their charisma and knowledge.
Not only in the US but any modern democracy.Comment

I'm just as much against welfare as much as anyone. Shit happens to people, and it's a nice idea to have that safety net. Unfortunately, in the real world the welfare system is raped and pillaged to the point where it's good for nothing more than breeding lazy dumb people and keeping shitty daytime court shows on the air.Oh I get it, because I have a small amount of success I should spread it around to those that dont right, or should the govt take it from me and do it. I support the Wall Street protests because the top 1-2% (financially) are like the older kids when parents leave. They eat all the cookies and ice-cream, drink all the sodas, decide what to watch on TV, and there's not a damned thing you can do about it.
I don't blame them for their behavior and I can't honestly say I wouldn't make the same decisions if I were in their positions. But this shit's getting out of hand, and something has to be done. Bitching about it on the internet for the past decade hasn't come up with any results, so something else has to be done. And before you sing and dance about democracy and tell me to vote (I do), grow up. Like welfare our system, our "representative" government is a nice idea but it's been raped and pillaged into bullshit.
And sorry Sleeve, I applaud your generosity, and I didn't mean to put you on the spot like that. It just annoys me when people measure themselves by their paycheck.Last edited by Bene; 10-07-2011, 04:49 PM.Comment

I think this protest is a bit ridiculous. In a free market, consumers vote for a product by purchasing it. If you don't like a particular corporation, don't support it financially. I think it's unfortunate that some corporations do not have better ethical business model, but it's the share holders that decide who gets to run it. If a corporation is unethical or morally objectionable, than likely the majority of the share holders hold similar values or expectations. I protest such corporations by not investing in them. You can actually buy mutual funds that only invest in morally driven companies (you won't get a great ROI though).sigpicComment
