well i didn't use ad hominems against you or anyone else in the post you responded to, so put some dramamine and valerian in your coffee and chill out, friend

the forced migration we're seeing around the world has multiple root causes, sometimes within each conflict area, and what you point out in the sudan is what i'm talking about- if this is the endgame they want, at least they're pushing the solution closer to the root cause, if not addressing it directly

to actually achieve the goal the trump crowd seems to want would require something like the iron curtain, from san diego to corpus christi, and that is the next worst thing we could spend our money on, right behind another war

i'm afraid i can't link to a source there, because the discussion of an actual secure and non-porous southern border is entirely fucking hypothetical

Ultimately that's one of my concerns on a personal level.

This appearing to the rest of the world as a "Berlin Wall" type of scenario.

Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, El Salvador. These are the four Central America countries that feed the current migration to the North. These people are fleeing their home countries usually because of the very hostile social conditions. The violence. Corrupted police. Absence of civil rights. Four very unstable countries where the US has done everything it could to stir shit in order to NOT have left-leaning governments at their door. Well. Look what happens now.

        https://medium.com/s/story/timeline-...a-a9bea9ebc148

        Honduras
2009: Left-leaning and democratically elected President Manuel Zelaya, who pursued progressive policies such as raising the minimum wage and subsidizing public transportation, is exiled in a military coup.

        El Salvador
1980–1992: A civil war rages between the military-led government and the leftist Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLN). The Reagan administration, under its Cold War containment policy, offers significant military assistance to the authoritarian government, essentially running the war by 1983. The U.S. military trains key components of the Salvadoran forces, including the Atlacatl Battalion, the “pride of the United States military team in San Salvador.” The Atlacatl Battalion would go on to commit a civilian massacre in the village of El Mozote in 1981, killing at least 733 and as many as 1,000 unarmed civilians, including women and children. An estimated 80,000 are killed during the war, with the U.N. estimating that 85 percent of civilian deaths were committed by the Salvadoran military and death squads.

        Guatemala
1981: The Guatemalan Army launches “Operation Ceniza” in response to a growing Marxist guerrilla movement. In the name of “counterattacks” and “retaliations” against guerrilla activities, entire villages are bombed and looted, and their residents executed, using high-grade military equipment received from the United States. The Reagan administration approves a $2 billion covert CIA program in Guatemala on top of the shipment of $19.5 million worth of military helicopters and $3.2 million worth of military jeeps and trucks to the Guatemalan army. By the mid-1980s, 150,000 civilians are killed in the war, with 250,000 refugees fleeing to Mexico. Military leaders and government officials would later be tried for the genocide of the Maya victims of military massacres.
1982: A second U.S.-backed military coup installs Efraín Ríos Montt as president. Montt is convicted of genocide in 2013 for trying to exterminate the indigenous Maya Ixil.
Brake harder. Go faster. No shit.

I just got back from Guatemala, interestingly enough, it wasn't what I would call violent. There are definitely gangs there, but that's mainly around Guatemala City, a majority of the population lives in rural areas far from there. The people that are leaving Guatemala for the US are doing so because they can get better jobs and secure better healthcare and opportunities for their families. Generally the same reasons why people come to the US from any other country, Guatemala just seems to be portrayed as some violent place, in general, it is not. It's very impoverished (70% of the total population lives on less than $500/yr or something insane like that), however, so people leaving for a chance at a clearly better situation isn't surprising in the least, nor is it surprising that they are willing to risk their lives doing it.

Right on. If anyone starts studying up on history, you'll see our Country is heavily responsible for the unrest in Central and South America where these immigrants (someone like a Trump Scapegoats) are fleeing from. We love Regime Change. We can put puppets in charge for private profit at the peril of the will of their own population. The situation in Venezuela has been our newest chapter in our long history of attempted Coups and Military Overthrows.

Definitely do not support of Trump's Military 4th of July parade & rally paid for by Taxpayers. No costs put forward. Putting himself at the center of it and flying and craning in tanks to run down the streets, etc, etc.

We celebrate the founding of our Country. We shouldn't be celebrating our Military strength. We don't have to. Pathetic & Weak. We look like Russia and North Korea.

While I agree with the perception and to some degree the message is sends out. The 4th is called independence day and while not what sparked off the US Revolutionary war, it cemented the rebellion and gave fuel to it, and its MILITARY, local political, and geopolitical needs for its eventual success .

So there is some context that is forgotten and while this years Trump parade styling's may be a little over the top (I do agree to a point), there is some matter of merit to them, for with out arms and men willing to put everything on the line for this country's founding our Independence day would likely be a very small foot note in British history textbooks.

All this said, this certainly is not the 1st military parade in even recent US history. Just because the talking heads on the magic picture box are outraged is not a reason to be.....

                                Terrifying isn't it?
