Observational shitpost from my last week in the land of the free:
Big disconnect in traditional media in/out of the US. I saw/heard nothing while I was inside, but back home I hear a lot of inflammatory quotes/clips.
Likely a lot of things at play - General Left/right bias, media ownership, who the comment is targeted at, etc.
This time I didn't see any "FJB" flags/banners, which should be expected given he's long gone, but I also saw zero T-dawg/MAGA anything, whereas last time there were many.
Otherwise it is surprising how it feels the same despite so much perceived change.Leave a comment:

The R's are going along with it all because their "small government, freedom, free speech" has always been bullshit. They want authoritarian rule. That's why they are all for what's going on.
Dude, thank you for the wish of luck. But don't be so doom and gloom, there are still so many people who care so very deeply on both sides of the political spectrum.
Trying to making DC a shining city is just an ego stroke for POTUS. I detoured through downtown DC yesterday just to take a look on my way back from the airport, and it was business as usual except for a lower number of homeless visible.
Troops in the capital isn't new, but using them as fake cops is a new low.
I think support for DT is waning, and the very people who need him to do their bad deeds don't trust him at all.
We shall see, but we're not abandoning ship yet, even if it is tempting.Leave a comment:

i'm honestly just repeating what is already a widely held belief that is openly discussed in our media. i'm not sure if the same discussions are bubbling to the surface in the US.
perhaps i'd believe that save for the fact trump is not ordering the troops back and they continue to maintain a presence in every american center he has deployed them. if rhetoric and troop levels increase or they move into other blue centers before mid-terms and the general election you will have your answer.

which suggests a palace coup type of removal with someone emerging from within the inner circle to retain the reign. again, it's increasingly unlikely there will be anything of a meaningful vote deciding that outcome.
that appears to anger your president more than anything.

do you honestly feel voting will ever be an issue again? you can probably relax on having to fulfil that societal responsibility.
the view from outside the US is possibly different. it shows armed enforcement already deployed in the capital and moving increasingly into other blue state centers. it's widely expected elections will likely be declared null and void or suspended all together under a manufactured "crisis", or even a real crisis provoked by the armed enforcement itself.
i'm frankly skeptical any sort of real mid-term will be held, but even if a facade of a vote is mounted, can you really believe there will be any sort of election after that? dumping troops into DC is highly suggestive the president has plans of never leaving under any circumstance.
i'm not sure where you guys are headed, but we wish you luck.

The way I see it, if you choose to not choose, then the choices will simply be made for you, and that's not cool. Your voice as a citizen matters.
Write in Blow Me for all I care, but vote, not just for President, but all the way to down. Keep psychos out of school boards, judicial seats, law enforcement.
Or in some states, register as a party your opposed to, and vote for inferior candidates to jam up their machine. Whatever works for you, but action>inaction.
If nothing else, researching who may be representing you, or making decisions that impact you may be illuminating, and you may begin to see some differences you didn't see before. You never know, that nobody you're voting for for a nothing office may one day be presidential material.Leave a comment:
