I hear ya and I get where you're coming from. Choices are part of life and I chose not to participate? That is an adult choice. Not a lazy cop out, like some have suggested.
When I say its two sides of the same coin, I don't mean they're identical..
I'm saying that it's leading us to the same place, voting dem or rep.
I understand that there are other options.
Me not casting a vote doesn't mean Im checked out. I still care about this topic, I talk about it with my friends ect ect.
I believe the people we're presented with do not represent us so why would I cast a vote for them?
People in power are going to stay in power. Regardless if people who've "checked" vote or not.
If there is someone I believe in, I'll cast a vote for them. Didn't see that this time around and many other times, so I didn't vote for a president. Pretty straight forward. Casting a vote just for the sake of it is honestly worse than what some people here have suggested.

No, it's part of living as an adult. Choices are part of life. Participating in this system of government, which is flawed, is better than just checking out. Checking out is probably what the people in power really want so they can control you without even bothering to ask your consent.
That's a gay position.
"you should participate in our corrupt government voting charade or I don't respect you"
Low IQ
In the grand scheme- the long term, it's moving one way.
That's basically asking someone would they rather chop their balls off or dick off and the person responds "neither"
But then you go BUT YOU HAVE TO PICK ONE
You also don't have to pick one, in most places there are options beyond the two leading party candidates. If you don't like either of them vote for a third party or write in.
But to call the two leading parties the same is derisible.Leave a comment:

Both sides are obviously not the same and insisting on it is disingenuous. Its just a lazy way to not participate and feel smug about it. If you've only voted once then you're always looking for a reason to stay home and feel justified.
I have more respect for trump voters than 'both sides' abstainers.

kamala or trump, same results. I’ve voted once in my life and realized…what’s the point….
Again, just the illusion of choice. It may lean this way or that way but it it’s one lane highway going only one place.
We are presented two shit options and according to what you said I have to pick one to have an opinion? Sorry bud, but hard pass.

Can you imagine the rage tweets we are going to get if voters will flip the house and senate and not allow the Cheetoh to run rough shod over the constitution?
Don't worry, the electorate is smart, they'll remember, and punish a party who has total control but wrecks shit. Right, right, right???
But for real, I don't know how national politics became like a student council candidate proposing pizza every day and getting in despite having no ability to control such a thing. Madness.

What?
Not even nearing the same thing. Trump lives for Trump Period.
You really think anyone else would be pulling the powergrab he has pulled? He has gutted the civil service solely to remove the levers that could oversee his moves & give him more power. The things he is doing are literally taken from How to make a democracy an Autocracy for Dummies.
The oversimplification of your post is insane to me, also, if you don't vote you have given up your right to complain.
The reason Trump won was nonvoters that disliked both & didn't care enough to get off their butts & do this simple thing.
And the Republicans are going along with it because they think they will win the midterms and be able to go even further.Leave a comment:

Lets face it, when either party goes extreme, whether right or left, voters tend to balance things out by voting out the extremists - kinda works in a way until one thinks about our campaign finance debacle.Leave a comment:

Okay there was less turnout than the previous election but its the second highest turnout ever by % That doesn't mean people didn't show up to vote. It may be lower than 2020 but is much higher than all other recent elections by far.
Nice rationalization, I like how you first acknowledged there was less turnout, then waffled back to your perspective & now are trying to claim you never changed your stance.
I have unsubbed this thread, thanks for the reminder that no good comes from engaging on car forums politically..
VEP was off by 1.4 points 2020 compared to 2024 and if you compare 2024 to the lowest recent election, 2012 we have an almost 4 point difference.. I legit don't see why you're standing on this hill that people didn't show up to vote.
So if there's an election in the future that bumps the 2020 to second place in regards to voter turnout, you're going to change your stance and say, "people didn't show up to vote in 2020?"
Come on
I didn't put up goal posts to move. You put up the numbers. How you interpret that data is objectively unfair, which you're willfully doing to prop up your position on "people didn't show up to vote, that why trump won"
Anyways, what do I know I'm just a mechanicLeave a comment:

I apparently subbed years ago and got notifications. That's solved.

Way to move the goalposts. I remember why I stay out of these threads, going back to modding my cars.Leave a comment:

But it's the second highest turnout by %? It may not be the highest but its closer to the highest turnout than the lowest?
In my humble opinion I don't think the turnout was low or low enough to contribute to "trump winning"
Even if you did believe that, what gives trump the edge over Kamala if turnout is low?Leave a comment:
