40 buck brake duct kit

We used to vent the engine compartment to the brakes with these:



Then seal up the ducts in the air dam...

This was top secret BMW e30 info here: The less openings in the air dam and front of the car, the less parasitic drag.

I remember reading another post where the person had some cheap ducts. The un even cooling caused by poor air redirection caused his rotors to crack and prematurely corroded his pads.

Yeah but theses ducts arnt pointed directly on the rotors.... When i bleed my brakes this weekend ill take pictures of the ducts positioning

From what the crazy gnomes tell me, there's also a bunch of high-pressure air in the engine compartment that doesn't flow through too well unless you vent the back of the hood to let it escape up. Confirm/deny?

seee i got that on lock..... when i bolted my hood down its not all the way lined up at the moment so it has a gap at the back

believe it or not thats just gonna let more air in unless its ducted. Only way to really fix the air in the engine bay is to not let as much in. Either block stuff off or duct incoming air. And/or put a plate under the motor. In club racing you can only have a plate on the front side of the axels.

Don't believe me? Look it up on sportcompact. Unducted holes in the hood only help for dyno's by cooling the engine bay. But in the real world they suck air into the bay and down under the car. All holes should be PROPERLY ducted ;)

Yes... But if you vent it out of the top (like with hood vents) you have to do some sealing off of the belly pan or it may actually suck air in.

Two 3" diameter ducts are not going to adversely effect stability. It's an E30, a flying brick, if you will, not a ground-effects car ;)

Also, better counter that splitter with a nice wing out back or your gonna get that mean oversteer...

Im getting a custom made IS splitter soon too... 2 inch front lip and it extends behind the lip 6 inchs...

Adding any air under the car isn't good period. That doesn't mean you will be flying to the moon if you do stupid things like not using backing plates. But having a boxy car means that little things like this are more importaint. Just like you mentioned the splitter and needing a large rear wing. Little things like canards, on the track can take seconds off laps! Again, a sedan won't ever see downforce but you should do all you can to reduce lift.

In short...This setup is just going to limit the potential of your car under most circumstances. Although it could aid in the destruction of your car, you and/or others in unforeseen events.
