In regard of brake cooling, the ducts should not only bring air to cool down the rotors from the center with a radial dispersion, cooling both faces equally (you don't want a cold face and a hot face), but also it cools down wheel bearings and makes them last longer.
If you don't track your car or don't live in the mountains (loosing your brakes going down a steep hill ain't fun), then you don't need air ducts as they can even have detrimental effects on your brakes by not allowing them to warm up.
