    Bigger wheels(within reason) yield less side wall. That means less spongy flex while gaining control/grip from more tread contact.

    Factory wheel size does not mean shit. Proper fitting tires and offset fitment only matter. P.S. I Built 14, 15, 16 & 17 wheels. Each size has the proper use.
    Hahahaha, only 4 lbs. That might as well be 40lbs per wheel. Rotational weight is the worst enemy. How you get a set of 235/40s to clear on a stock E30 is beyond me. Those must rub everywhere, especially on a 17x9. With a 40 series sidewall, your wheels won't last long either, unless you have found public road that is glass smooth with no potholes or other imperfections. I had issues with 215/40s stretched across 8.5 inch wheels and my fenders are bigger than yours. Either you don't have any inner fender covers, or you don't give a crap.

    I'll take a 225/45/15 over a 215/40/17 any day of the week. At least my wheels will be round and crack free, and have a bigger footprint as well. Not to mention the ride quality is better. The car has plenty of grip, and will beat people on R compounds in an autoX, even with the suspension geometry all screwed up because its too low. I already have people bitching that I have an unfair advantage in my race class even with the 2nd heaviest car in class that is mostly stock running street tires.

      Will, do you run that size on your m3 or just a 325? for my m3 im getting 235/45R17 next. po put 215/40r17s on my car and they look weird.

          fatty-spokes were also on the other car in my pic above, if you need another view (Mitch's car, from AZ); i don't think they look right on an e30 but you can fit a lot of good tire on them.

            *Note for NOR-Cal chat, I like how you guys have so many people to hang out with. East coast does not really have that.*

            I was a second behind a gutted s50(cammed, chipped) with R comps on coilovers with my stock eta. If you tune the suspension with front and rear toe and camber it only improves handling.

            I went with 17s because 15-16" it too tiny for the BBK I am planning on(IE:310mm front rear). Also 16" does not offer enough tread for my projected 500hp next year(225 is the max).

            I am following Good & Tight's m30 turbo. Granted if I stuck with my current UUC kit I would run a 6UL 15x9 square. As I stated it does not matter the wheel as long as you fit proper size tires within spec. You can argue that till you're blue in the face. I agree that a daily is PERFECT with 16" 225/45R-16, my car is not really a daily anymore.

            40lbs rotational is completely fine by me since I can run a 245/35(603.3mm overall). I have been driving with coilovers for about 8 years, it is normal to keep a constant eye out for potholes no matter the suspension setup. My area is really nice(given sticking to normal routes with no speed bumps).

            Complete contact from left to right of tread. That is with rear adjusters removed(twin centering cones) on an early model(reason I can fit more tread). I don't rub in anyplace at all, it is a perfect fitment with compete contact and a bit of camber.

                          DO IT! Those are in my top 5 favorite stock BMW wheel for e30 fitment. 15 and 10mm spacers would look amazing with a Motorsport hardware stud kit.

                            Brandon, do you have any pics of your inner rear fenders? I think that convertibles have a thicker double wall (more rigidity?) than sedans. It's like 10mm+ and is quite annoying for wheel figment. I'm gonna see what I can do as far as cutting/hammering goes on my spare parts car before it goes to pick n pull.

                              They are the same man, rolled my brother's '92 vert this summer. BE CAREFUL, it is not an easy task using a hammer to roll. Takes me 30+mins per rear arch, but I never damage paint and it is rolled as far as they can go.
