I emailed him last night about the wheels, no word yet. I would be tempted to pick it up and part it but I don't think my apartment complex will allow a car like that.

If you get it, I'll let you keep it at my house and part it out from there if you give me the seats....

Maintenance will be a bitch, electrical systems love failing. If you have a limited budget, or can't do electrical work yourself, it might not be the car for you.

However....I drove one for a month in Germany, a modded 730i. I loved the damn thing, I'd buy an 01 740i Sport in a heartbeat if I could afford one. Awesome cars, look amazing, and really fun to drive.

I even liked the auto, it surprised me.

E38s are a dime a dozen nowadays. Just search "BMW 740iL" on denver CL and see how many come up for sub-$5000.

also: heavy and automatic. an E39 540i/6 sport is probably cheaper for one in similar condition, same motor, 6 speed, faster, lighter, tighter suspension, and still roomy.

Well, it's a 740i Sport, which isn't common. Plus, all the $5000 E38s will need many thousands worth of electrical repair. I'd happily pay more for a car in better condition with lower miles.

The E38 is heavier and more ponderous, but looks better than the E39 to my eyes, is super fun to drive, and is super comfy to cruise in. It's a brilliant car.

A 540i/6 in similarly good condition will cost at least as much. Those are rare cult cars.

                      I'd take the E38.

I'd take an E39 540i/6 for that price.

I've got a place we could keep it too... I talked to my friend about buying it too. If you just want the wheels I bet he would be into picking it up from you with bottle caps. or vice versa...

Yes, tell your friend to try to get a hold of the guy too. If the wheels are in 7/10 condition I will take them. I just don't want huge bends with an awful finish. All depends on condition.

No one makes this car anymore. The government won't allow them, normal people won't buy them. So it's up to us: the freaks, the weirdos, the informed. To buy them, to appreciate them, and most importantly, to drive them.

Sounds like that guy might take $200 for those 3-piece OZ's. Man if they are in good condition then that is sweet. So either on saturday I will have more wheels or I will be shanked.
